On July 15th in 1888, on Bandai volcano, a small steam eruption happened in the top of the mountain. After that, a volcanic body collapsed on the north side, and the debris flow mainly went down the north foot, with some at the southeastern foot. As for the investigation thesis of this eruption, there are Sekiya and Kikuchi (1889), and many others. The photographs of the eruption of the Bandai volcano from this eruption are taken by Iwata Zenbei, Endo Rikurou, W.K.Burton, Tanaka Miyoji, although the photographers of some photographs are unclear. These photographs are kept in Fukushima prefectural library, the National Science Museum, the Imperial Household Agency, the Fukushima prefectural museum (Osako et al. 2003: Chiba et al. 2004: Takebe・Nakamura 2000: Chiba・Sato 2007a・b). Recently, it was confirmed that the photographs of the eruption of Bandai volcano in 1888 existed in the Gakushuin university library and materials palace (Gakushuin university materials palace 2006). This thesis has shown two sheets of photographs 「226」 「231」 of the eruption of Bandai volcano in 1888 under the Gakushuin university, and compared them with the photographs of another person. The result is that sheet "226", it found that in the photography place and the direction were "towards the east(Kushigamine) from the west wall of the explosion crater by 1888 eruption", and photography time was "between August and October, 1888". Regarding sheet "231", it was found that the photography place and the direction of the photographs were "from Inawashiro-machi Mine, toward the northeastern direction", and the time of the photographs was "about at July 23, 1888".
