The present paper deals with, first, a review on the penicilin-resistibility of microorganisms, and, second, a report of the results of the experiments which were designed and carried out by the present writer in order to investigate the properties of penicillin-resistant microorganisms. It has been the hope of the present writer, through further studies on this line, to gain a deeper insight into the mechanism of the development of penicillin-resistance and of the penicillin action on microorganisms. Elucidation of these mechanisms may, then, lead to development of a method to prevent aquisition of resistance by mircoorganisms, whereby a more effective penicillin therapy may eventually be established. It was observed in the writer's experiments that the development of penicillinresistance is checked by quinine and acriflavin, which are the metabolic inhibitors of flavoproteins of the respiratory enzymes in microorganisms. According to the writer's interpretation, this phenomenon indicates the important role of flavoproteins in the process of the development of penicillin-resistance in micro-organisms.

    1. With the object of studying the cause of the resldual tensioin in the leg muscle of the spinal toad, various regions of the skin were stimulated while nerve impulses led off from the motor root were recorded. When regions near the trunk were stimulated the tonic impulses which continued for a long time were observed, and the impulse discharges were more phasic with the increase of the distance of the point of stimulation from the trunk. 2. The proprioceptive reflex was not observed in the toad. 3. The true nature of Brondgeest's phenomenon was found to be the tonic skin reflex caused by the stretch of the skin of the outer side of the femoral region. This skin reflex was maintained by the impulses of the small motor nerves. 4. When both ends of the muscle were fixed during the skin reflex, namely under the isometric condition, the efferent impulses increase as the result of the increse of the afferent impulses. Thus the afferent, impulses from the muscle involve the action to facilitate the skin reflex towards the same muscle.

Tsuchiya et al. carried out the antigenic analysis of seven species of genus Candida by the method of the slide agglutination reaction with the antisera after reciprocal absorption and they came to the conclusion that C. parakrusei had five kinds (I, II, III, VII and VIII) of antigens. However, the strain of C. parakusei (D) used in their experiment was not quite typical in its biological properties. The present writer performed the similar antigenic analysis with the most typical strain of C. parakrusei. The results showed that, in addituon to the five antigens mentioned above, there was another antigen XI which was strictly specific to C. parakrusei. The validity of the antigenic structure of six other species of genus Candida in Tsuchiya's experiment was confirmed. The D strain was found to differ from the typical one in its forming a thin film on the Sabouraud's broth and in its lower ability of producing antibodies homologous to antigen XI immunizing the rabbit.

A substance or substances which have hemopoietic and blood coagulation accelerating activities can be extracted from the blood powder with acetone, alcohol, ether and water. The extract-ion is more effective at a higher temperature, and the activities are the highest in the acetone extract. The active substance can be re-extracted from the concentrated extracts with water. The substance is contained in the residual part of the blood powder freed from strumata and hemoglobin.

    1. In a case of a patient with malingant hypertentoin, various medical preperations which were claimed to contain all alkaloids of Rauwolfia serpentine were proved to be completely ineffective. However, when Reserpine only which was considered as the effective component of Rauwolfia serpentine was applied to the patient, blood pressure depressing and sedative action was remarkable. (Apresoline and C6 were proved to be temporarily effective.) 2. The injection of Apoplon (Japanese preperation of Reserpine) was effective in the early stadium of the treatment, but the oral administration seemed to produce better results in the prolonged treatment. 3. The injection of Apoplon and the administration of Serpasil (Chiba) were proved to be most effective in alleviating the subjective symptoms without accompanying any ill reaction.

We examined the degree of retinal arteriosclerosis (S), systolic blood pressure (Ps), diastolic blood pressure (Pd), and some general symptoms of 2000 miners. Ps, Pd, and S showed a fair degree of correlation with age, Pd and S noticeably showing similar changes in relation to age but Ps showing a depression around 30 years of age. A/G ratio was negative while β-globulin percentage Was positive in the correlation between S and blood serum protein fraction. Serum ChE value no change and the amount of VitC was generally low indicating a need for the improvement of diet in the territory.
