Studies on the ectoparasites infesting rats were carried out in Narashino District, especially in and around the campus of Juntendo University, Chiba Prefecture.25 Rattus rattus alexandrinus and 12 Rattus norvegicus were collected by snap traps. As listed on Table 2 and 3, 6 genera, 8 species of blood sucking or/and parasitic mites, 3 families and 3 genera of free living mites, two genera, two species of blood sucking lice, and two genera, two species of fleas were identified.413 specimens out of total 525 specimens were removed from domestic rats, R. r. alexandrinus and 262 specimens of those were found on the rats collected in the dormitory and other buildings in the campus. One female specimen of Cheletomorpha lepidopterorum, the free living mite, collected during these studies is a new record of distribution in Japan. These results show us the fact that rodent and insect control should be urgently carried out.

    1) Pharmacological effects of Sodium gentisate were studied, compared with those of Sodium salicylate, and further studies were carried out on Gentisic amide 2) Sodium gentisate has pyrexia-imhibitory effect, antihyaluronidase effect, stimulating effect on the cure of Arthritis, and little toxic effect. Sodium gentisate has a few advantages over Sodium salicyte in rgard to pharmacological effects. 3) Gentisic amide has almost the same effects with Sodium gentisate, and less toxic effect.

In 87.5% of all cases, the duration of symptomes betwe en the first finding and the operation was 2 years or shorter. In tne grade of mamma cancer 62% were Steinthal II grades. All the patients of Steinthal I grade survived for 4 years or more, but 55% of Steinthal I grade, lived only 1 year or a little more. Statistic observations of reactions following trausfusion with stored blood are stated. In these ractions urticaria appears most frequently but feverous reactions are extremely slight. Besides, transmissions of malaria, serum hepatitis and death due to transfusion of incompatible blood are evoked. It is difficult to analyse these reactions, for there are many factors in the cause of such reactions. Under the present circumstances, we must make an effort to select the donors supplying the “pure blood”, to prevent from these reactions.

The Oximeter is the instrument to measure the arterial oxygen saturation by difference of absorption between oxyhemoglobin and reducted hemoglobin. In surgery, the oximeter is used to measure changes of arterial oxygen saturation during operation, and used to find anoxemia. 87 clinical cases and 20 dogs were used. Conclusions are as fololws : - 1. Under the local anaesthesia, decrease of oxygen saturation was observed at trepanation. 2. Generally, by the spinal anesthesia, it showed slight change but some cases showed decrease. 3.Under the general narcosis, it showed decrase at inhalation of ether (after pentothal-sodium inductlon narcesis), but during the operations it showed no marked decrease. By the lobectomy, during the intubation marked decrease of saturation rate was observed but slight change by opening and closing the chest. 4. Under the electronarcosis (animal expirments), it decreased temporarily by maximum current but did not changed by continuous constant crrent.

A case diagnosed as multiple myeloma with the chief complaint of sever pain of the thorax was reported. The case was diagnosed as result of various examinations in which BenceJones proteinuria, hyperproteinemia, (especially hypergiobulinemia). plasma cells in sternal marrow biopsy and changes in the roetgenographic appearances were significant. Combined chemotherapy consisting of urethane, nitromin (Nitrogen Mustard-N-Oxide) and sarkomycin were used but spontaneous fracture of the sternum occurred in the clinical course preventing the observation of the effects of treatment.
