A Belousov-Zhabotinskii oscillation system involving 1, 3-dimethoxy benzene and Mn
2+/Mn
3+ as a redox catalyst was studied. In contrast to the analogous reaction with malonic acid, no oscillations of the concentration of bromide ions were detected by a bromide ion selective electrode. Two different types of oscillations (damped type and undamped type) which depend on the initial composition of system, were observed. The effect of changes in reagent concentrations and the temperature dependence of the system were studied. The energies of activation were estimated from the Arrhenius plots.
