A nekoflavin-like substance was isolated from cat liver. The substance was not distinguished from nekoflavin by thin layer chromatography, gel chromatography, ultraviolet and visible absorption spectra, fluorescence spectrum, pH-fluorescence curve, and periodic acid oxidation. It was not decomposed by treatments with 2N HCl (100℃, 2h), 0.05N NaOH (room temperature, overnight), and alkaline phosphatase. However, it was photodecomposed to lumiflavin (in alkaline) and lumichrome (in acidic medium) which were identified by thin layer chromatography, visible absorption spectrum, and pH-fluorescence curve. The chemical structure of the substance was discussed.
