This paper described the fractional of tilled clod configurations, minute undulations and cracks of tilled clods.
The clod outline curves, the crack curves and the crack distributions were estimated as fractional configuration within the measuring scales. we obtained unique values of their fractal dimensions respectively, and then we discussed about three mathematical models for the clod formation process. It was considered that the minute undulations and the cracks were formed by the vibration of the rotary blade with its natural frequencies and that the fractal structure was developed from the microscopic interaction between the soil and the blade.

This study was carried out to analyze paddy soil and lugged wheel interaction. In this paper, dynamic behaviour of a lugged wheel was investigated in two kinds of soil; a high moisture, homogenious paddy soil and a paddy soil with hardpan. The curves of normal and tangential reaction forces to lugs were rather smooth in the homogenious paddy soil, but in the paddy soil with hardpan an abrupt increase and decrease of the reaction forces was observed. A rotating regular polygon on a rigid plane was assumed as a theoretical model of lugged wheel. The vertical motion of lugged wheel was discussed using the result from the model.

The working performance of a rotary tiller depends also on the optimum design of rotary shaft. The object of this study is to establish the optimum design theory and method for the rotary shaft with reference to the results of previous studies and recent researches. The evaluation theories of working characteristics for the rotary shaft will be analized theoretically and empirically, and the optimum design theory of the rotary blades' arrangement will also be established by using CAE etc. Furthermore, the expert CAD system for the design of the rotary shaft will be developed.
This report is the introduction of the study. It deals with the practical design and analytical equations for the edge-curve of a rotary blade based on an ideal theory. Moreover, the relative kinematic relationship between rotary blades and soil surface is investigated in order that numerical computation for optimum design of the rotary shaft can be done by the computer.
Besides, the relationship between the velocity rate λ and the tillage depth H and the cutting angle φB of a blade is expounded analytically, because these parameters relate to unstable tillage of a rotary tiller.

This study aims to obtain a reasonable designing method for minimizing vibration of a rubber crawler system for farm machinery.
In this paper, vertical penetration test of the track roller into the inner surface of the rubber crawler was performed in order to make clear the mechanical interaction between the track roller and the rubber crawler. Furthermore, relationship between the loading force by the track roller and the vertical compressing displacement of the rubber crawler were investigated.
Results showed that the compressing displacements due to a constant loading force by the track roller varied at every measuring points, and that the displacements measured at measuring points above core bars and at those between core bars gave remarkable differences.
Finally, it was suggested to be appropriate that the static spring constant was expressed by a Fourier series.

A fruit harvesting robot equipped with a large manipulator was manufactured for trial to harvest fruits on large trees. Automatic harvesting experiments of Summer Orange were done in an orchard. The three-dimensional location of the fruit was obtained by means of a stereo-camera using a color TV camera, and the fruit was picked by the robot hand which was composed of three rubber fingers and a pair of scissors.

In order to artificially intellectualize and standardize the nondestructive quality evaluation system for the agricultural products, the intact fruits were vibrated with random force and it was tried to describe the model of the plant material parametrically based upon its dynamic behavior to the vibrating force.
The autoregressive-moverage (ARMA) model was assumed as the plant material and its parameters were estimated by the recursive least spuare method derived from Kalman filter theory.
The ARMA model could describe the dynamic behavior of the plant material with less parameters than the AR model. It might be possible that the quality evaluation of the plant material during storage was carried out by means of discriminant analysis using the ARMA parameters.

A new objective evaluation method for tea leaf shape which is one of the important factors concerning with tea quality was developed with image processing technique. The mass quality score was calculated according to the shape features which expressed each tea leaf shape. As a result of investigating the relationship between the shape features and the score by sensory test, it was clear that the shape score of a tea leaf became high when the minor axis of elipse approximating the tea leaf was small. It was also clear that the score of a mass of tea could be be calculated from the average and variance of the scores of the tea leaves and the content ratio ratio of stems and dusts. The score by this method almost agreed with the score by sensory test.

Aflatoxin is an extremely potent carcinogen which is produced by Aspergillus flaves and it contaminates grain in regions which have both high temperature and high humidity. In order to find a suitable aflatoxin prevention method for the weather and economical conditions in Theiland, we made simple low cost solar dryers and tested them, changing the conditions of setting, etc., and investigated the effects of drying on the prevention of aflatoxin. As a result, it became clear that if we set up the solar dryer on a concrete paved barnyard, we can dry a stationary layer of maize (initial M. C. 26% w. b.) in a total of 35hrs' duration of sunshine, and can obtain a condition which will not produce aflatoxin even in the rainy season. It is more difficult for the aflatoxin producing fungi to grow on the ear maize than on the damaged maize kernels which are shelled when the moisture content is high.
