The basic researches for deciding the design criteria required in the basic design of a compressed biomass feeder, which is constructionally one of principal equipments of a bio-gas and charcoal generator together with an indirect decomposition furnace, were carried out. The results may be summarized as follows:
(1) The proper compressive load
ps exerted on biomass charged in the cylinder is 5-7MPa {about 50-70kgf/cm
2} for both husk and sawdust.
(2) The friction coefficient of the cylinder inside μ
r is independent of
ps, but is influenced very much by finished surface roughness of cylinder inside R
z. Consequently, it is desirable to finish the cylinder inside to the smooth surface of ∇∇∇ finish.
(3) It is possible technically to develop the compressed biomass feeder which supplies a piece of compressed biomass of layer thickness
h2 pushed out of the outlet end of cylinder at fixed intervals of time.
