Generation of solid borne sound in a model cab especially in the range of low frequency was clarified theoretically from deflection vibrations of cab walls. The deflection of a cab wall was expressed by a combined function of the 4th degree of freedom of x and y, and a volume change by the deflections of six cab walls made the solid borne sound. A vibration mode of the cab should be however considered because each wall vibrated with a different phase lag. Calculated values of sound pressure level based on this theory coincided with the measured values satisfactorily. The cab suspension system reduced considerablly the sound pressure level in the cab. As same as the case of vibration, the lower the spring rate of suspension system was, the more the effect was.

The analog prediction system developed and investigated by R. L. Schafer and C. A. Reaves was used for predicting torques on rotary blades.
Three sizes of rotary blades with a similar configuration and cones as an analog tool were chosen to be in ratios of 1:1, 1:1. 25 and 1:1.61 relative to the smallest size. Tests were run in silt soil at three moisture levels. The tillage test was designed to run in three levels of depth and in one level of forward speed and peripheral speed of rotary blades. Torques on rotary blades, cone penetration forces, depths etc. were measured and average penetration forces from soil surface to each corresponding scaled depth were calculated.
Through the data analysis, the following results were obtained. The average prediction errors from two models of rotary blades were very low, as the result of offset account and accordingly their standard deviations were considerably large. As to the absolute values of the prediction errors, the larger model showed the average error of 13.5%, and the standard deviation of 7.61%. The result was not acceptable but exceeded expectation for such a powered one as a rotary implement, and the cause of these errors was investigated.

The main objective of this study is to establish a designing theory for both rotary tiller and tractor mounted with them. In the first step, in order to analyze the dynamic characteristics of rotary tillage equipments especially the tilling resistance of Japanese rotary blades, the distributions of tilling resistance to tipless (straight) blade and bending tip portions were investigated. The rotating resistance force on tipless (straight) blade and bending tip portions, the radial suction force and the centripetal force are explained.
The tillage torque bending for the standard blade can be represented as the composed torque curves of tipless (straight) blade and bending tip portions. The ratio of tilling work (area of torque curve) of bending tip portions to that of the standard blade is defined as “coefficient of torque distribution Z
t of the bending tip portions”. The relationships between this coefficient and the actual tilling pitch p
a, neighboring tilling pitch p
a′, tillage depth H, soil condition S were obtained by using experimental design method.

As the walking type rice transplanter is operated generully on the uneven sole pan by the wheels, the chassis and float repeats randomly and up-down motion in a vertical direstion and they can be rotated becauseof this motion. This report was on a study of the theoretial analysis on the pitching motion of rice transplanter fravelling on the uneven pan and was also on the derivation of the differential equation of motion with the damped four-degrees-of-freedom.
The displacement of float was smaller than its chassis, if the displacement of float was neglected compared to the motion of this system, the equation can be expressed as the damped two-degrees-of-freedom system. The theoretical solution for the equation can be obtained in the same way as the damped four-degrees-of-freedom system.

With the progress of the new governmental program named Reorganization of Paddy Field Utilization initated in 1978, area cropped to soybeans has increased year by year. As a part of the study program to establish the mechanical harvesting system for soybean, the study to develop a new thresher with the screw type threshing and separating mechanism, which are completely different from the conventional type was constructed from 1978 to 1982. The whole process of these studies will be mentioned by the series of 4 reports.
In this report, the structure and function of screw type threshing mechanism developed by authors were discussed, and the proper specification of main structure on this mechanism, such as pitch of screw type tooth, number and shape of peg tooth, length of threshing cylinder, concave clearance and meshes of concave were clarified by basic experiments.

When rice husk is compressed by a plunger, the plunger pressure applied to the upper surface of the rice husk can not be transmitted to the bottom of the cylinder sufficiently, although some part of it is transmitted to the bottom.
In order to clear the transmission of plunger pressure to the rice husk filled in the cylinder, the vertical transformation of rice husk in a transparent cylinder was firstly observed. Then the vertical bottom and cylinder side pressures were measured, and the theoretical aspects of the amount of pressure on different parts of the rice husk in the cylinder was discussed.

In Tokachi district, field storage of Chinese yam tubers has been done by the growers during winter. Since Chinese yam tubers are stored on the ground at low temperature, the field storage is considered to be effective for energy saving. The effect of storage on the ground for the quality of Chinese yam tuber is not so clearly found. The changes in quality of the Chinese yam tuber during field storage were, therefore, investigated from November of 1980 through July of 1981.
Experimental results indicated that viscosity of the yam tuber decreased rapidly between the beginning and the middle of November, but increase in non-reducing sugar content was so slight during winter that the taste of tuber became little sweet. The viscosity and non-reducing sugar content of the yam tuber could be expressed as the function of underground temperature and reducing sugar content.

This study was carried out in order to obtain the fundamental data for designing a suitable packaging system for Japanese Pear “Nijisseiki”. Measurements on mechanical properties of the fruits were made under quasi-static and impact compression tests as related to susceptibility of the fruit to mechanical injury. Especially the effect of harvesting date or maturity stage and storage practice on the mechanical properties were discussed in detail. In addition a new proposition was made to apply the Hertz's theory of elasticity for analyzing impact acceleration more accurately using dynamic modulus obtained from the impact compression test.

Volatile matter and fixed carbon tend to burn concurrently during direct combustion of rice hull.
In this report, some properties of direct combustion, maximum temperature and so forth, were obtained under various air flow conditions. The thin layer experiments were conducted in order to supply the rice hull part with sufficient oxygen.
The results obtained from the experiments were compared to those of husk charcoal combustion which had been reported and to those of DSC analysis, and the authors could obtain some conceptions as to mechanism of direct combustion.

The protected cultivation in Japan is a very intensive farming which requires a great amount of labor. Therefore, the mechanization or labor-saving for the protected cultivation is one of the most important problems. High temperature and high humidity environment in greenhouse are necessary for growing crops but not for workers. For that reason, it is helpful for the workers to be improved the working environment. In this report, the author points out the present situation and the problems to be solved for the various movable type crop-bed system in greenhouse, and discusses on the primary factor for the new type system to develop.
