In our research a dual-fuel diesel engine was operated with biogas and diesel fuel. The performance of the engine was able to be increased by optimized scheduling of Biogas supply to the engine by using a buffering tank. In this method, it is assumed that the profiles of biogas production and the engine load are fixed every day. But it is expected that these profiles are changing every day. Therefore, the declaration of the engine performance caused by such fluctuation was evaluated. The fluctuation of biogas production profile had almost no effect on the engine performance, but had more effects on engine load. But in many cases, the declaration of the performance were not so significant. Therefore the optimized schedule of Biogas supply has the robustness against the fluctuation of the operating situation.

This paper describes the effect of the angular momentum around the tillage axle of a reverse-rotational rotary tiller. It examines rear direction clod throwing using a short scoop surface blade for deep tillage. To achieve good clod throwing conditions, a higher speed of the rotary axle is needed. This is obtained by increasing the ratio of the angular momentum of thrown clods to the angular momentum around the axle. The efficiency of the power requirement of the rotary tiller becomes high. Based on the trajectories of the thrown clods and the torque of tillage axle, the peripheral speed of the rotary blade is calculated at approximately 5.5-6.0m/s. This rotary axle speed is more than 30 percent of the presently marketed reverse-rotational rotary tiller.

Variation of milling ratio and broken ratio with time during rice milling at various moisture contents of Japanese short-grain rice and rotor velocities were measured using a compact vertical shaped abrasive type milling machine. Results show that variation of milling ratio with time could be explained using an empirical equation which closely fitted the measured values. Next, variation of broken ratio with milling ratio was analyzed, and an equation was introduced which explained the relationship between dimensionless milling ratio and broken rice ratio. Results show that calculated values were explained closely to the measured values.
It was also observed that rigidity and sphericity depends on the milling ratio.

It is necessary for stable production of high-yield and high-quality sugar cane with low cost to construct a production assisting information system for collecting and providing the required information such as soil, crop, pests and diseases, and weather conditions. In this study, the structure and functions of the system were discussed, and, main parts of it were made by forming the three kinds of database which were utilized the quality data, that is, yield of sugar cane, sugar content in cane (pol per cent cane) and so on obtained automatically by the purchase system. Characteristics of the distribution of sugar content were checked, and the effect of cropping type, variety and rainfall in the harvesting season on the sugar content were analyzed, and some distinct properties were made clear.

In the previous papers of this series, detecting algorithms of chrysanthemum cutting for visual sensor and two types of leaf removing devices were reported. In this paper, a planting device which sticks cuttings into a plug tray is described as a final procedure of this cutting sticking robot system. The planting device grasped ten cuttings whose lower leaves were removed by the leaf removing device with a plate and could stick the cuttings into a plug tray at a time. From the experimental results, it was observed that its success rate was around 95%.

The performance of prototype 2 consisting of an improved vacket and compressing roler, a new cutting device was tested. Using sensing parts, limit switches, a rotary encorder, motor inverters and developing a system control program, the loading and unloading device was controlled by a microcomputer. The new cutting device for grass silage worked well and could unload with efficiency of 73kg/min. In case of automatic working, the loading efficiency was 600kg/h and the unloading efficiency was 440kg/h.

In order to improve a performance of the tilling robot, control methods of a 90°turn and a sideways movement were developed. The controller of the 90°turn has an ability that is able to learn a turn radius during operation so as to compensate a fluctuation of a turn radius which is caused by changing the moisture content and the soil type of the field surface. On the other hand, in order to move the robot sideways effectively and to guide the robot to the target path precisely, the controller of the sideways movement was contrived to judge the necessity of the forward movement by evaluating difficulty of the robot control as a quantity.

There are two kinds of ridge, soil and concrete in the paddy field. Ridge is classified as three types which are ridge aimed at travel in the beginning of the rice transplant, ridge of the field end and ridge of the field side. This paper discribes the detection of the soil ridge. The ridge edge were detected by the differential calculus processing with modified Kirsch operator. Each type of ridges was detected using each mask processing. Furthermore, the ridge line was determined using the Hough transformation. Though there was the end of the ridge in the image of the aimed ridge, the end of the ridge line was detected. The ridge line of the paddy field end was drawed exactly.

This paper intends to develop an algorithm capable of not only improving poor discrimination for red apples under back light, as described in the previous paper, but also segmenting color images into apples, leaves, branches and background. By discussing characteristics of the primary color system RGB, a region segmentation model which combined chrominance G-Y with the RGB ratios of R/G, R/B and G/B was proposed. The experiments performed on red apple images under various lighting illustrates that over 80% (as a target) of the pixels of almost every apples, and most of leaves and sky were correctly segmented. However, some branches were not completely discriminated from leaves and others by this model.

In this paper the authors deal with the relationship between kinematic viscosity and the size of droplets of two kinds of vegetable oils (deacidified rapeseed oil and deacidified palm oil) and the mixture of light oil and each vegetable oil. We measured the size of droplets by the immersion method. The kinematic viscosity of the four types of oils tested was altered by varying the injection temperatures and the ratios of the mixture of vegetable oil and light oil. As a result, the size of droplets increased with the increase of kinematic viscosity at each temperature. The relationship between kinematic viscosity and the size of droplets was approximately logarithmic.

A rotary type planting mechanism for a zigzag rice transplanter was developed. This mechanism is based on the rotary type planting mechanism of a high speed rice transplanter. It contains two spacial locus planting mechanisms. A set of conical gears and a set of elliptical gears are used inside the rotary case to obtain the spacial locus. These cause a reciprocal motion in the planting finger axle, which is not parallel to the case rotating axle. The planting locus simulator was programmed on EWS using the visual design of the spacial loci. Two different types of planting mechanisms were made which indicate the potential development of zigzag rice transplanters.

Flowable dropper with tubing pump system has been developed. This system drops flowable herbicide into the rice field while transplanting the rice at the same time. Discharge rate of the metering mechanism, which interlockes the number of rows and the intrarow space, was examined. Choking of the inner tube, caused by the adhered flowable and the continuous flowable drop has also been observed. Results showed the prototype had strong endurance against inner tube choking caused by flowable. Therefore, the prototype was judged to be superior in termsof maintainability. The practicability of the machine has been verified.

We designed and tested a new positioning apparatus of a tractor. This apparatus was constructed with two rolling wheels to measure the travelling distance and the travelling direction. Even in the case of side slipping, this apparatus indicated the correct travelling direction of the tractor. The measurement error of the travelling distance was the degree of ±0.21%. The error of the angle of the travelling direction was proportional not to the steering angle but to the travelling distance. In theory, by resolution ability of the rotary encoder, the degree of error was 0.65 degrees per 100m travelling. The actual error in experiment was almost the same degree or 2 times. At a slope land of 8 degrees, it made nearly correct positioning.
