A beam profile monitoring system has been applied to the analysis of ASE and deposition profile of a high power large aperture KrF laser. The spatial gain distribution measured by the image analysis method agreed very well to the deposition profile calculated by a Monte-Carlo computer simulation. The basic laser parameters, small signal gain, absorption and saturation intensity of 100J class KrF laser system under a high density pumping around lMW/cc was determined as a function of the Kr concentration of the gas mixture.

The AC-thin film electroluminescent device has already begun to be applied to practical device since its problems of the brightness, life time, and so on are solved. But up to the present only the mono-color device which has ZnS : Mn active layer has realized, and the emitting mechanism has not been clear though the device is achieved the high brightness and efficiency. The EL device which has ZnS : Mn active layer has the character to vary the brightness and efficiency with Mn concentration. In such devoce we tried to clear the Mn condition in the active layer by ESR and X-ray diffraction.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the behavior of the meta-stable atom in glow discharge by the laser-induced fluorescence method. Because of its long life-time, the behavior of the meta-stable atom is very effective on excitation and ionization mechanisms, hence the electrical characteristic of glow discharge. The experiments were performed for He+Xe mixture gas as well as pure He gas discharge.

It was clarified that the surface-discharge AC-plasma display panels have an advantage of high brightness and luminous efficiency by using the 3-Phase driving method. The 3-Phase driving method was proved that the surface-discharge AC-plasma display panels are able to be operated under the low gas pressure keeping a wide memory coefficient. The computer simulation was carried out to clarify the mechanism of operation in the 3-Phase driving method.

B4-paper-size 240 dots/IN LED print head, having the following features, and high yield into consideration. A number of LED module each carrying an LED chip on a small ceramic substrate, are aligned on a base plate. To expand the allowance of output power variation of LED array and to obtain high quality print, we controlled the driving current for each LEDs. The LED have the characteristic of high responsibilty and possibility to be driven by a high current, we simplified the circuit by applying the 128×18 chips matrix driving. As the result of head life test, it is satisfactory for the all LED go-on mode for 3000 hr.

Square three-color dots of 375 μm pitch were used in a 5.7 inch diagonal LCD panel for excellent character and TV display. Self-alignment processed a-Si : H TFTs with gate size of 5 μm×40 μm were used to reduce cross talk noise through TFT parasitic capacitances.

We have achieved high quality image comparable to CRT by using optimized a-Si TFTs and the Multi-Gap panel structure. We have obtained the contrast ratio of more than 20 for the wide viewing angles : ±35 in horizontal and ±30 in virtical, which enables us to reproduce high purity of RGB color.
