This paper describes a novel photodetector, based on a new charge inte- gration concept, "persistance-integration". This photodetector is found tobe suitable for imaging low-speed or static objects at low light levels. Model of the sensor, based on the experimental results of a single pixel device is presented. Dynamic range is about 110dB. Linearity γ≃0.71. Signal gain of the device can automatically increase with a decrease of incident light intensity.

This paper describes a new method of FPN suppression without using memories on CMD. A unique point of this method is in a reset operation at each pixel. The FPN can be reduced by removing dark signal, which is readout lust after resetting, from output signal. By this method the FPN suppression ratio was achieved to 15.8dB.

In order to develop a high performance HDTV camera, a new combination of electron optics and a HARP target is proposed. A unique lens structure and electrode configuration was adopted in the new 1-inch a11 electrostatic focusing and deflecting system. In the prototype tube, a maximum sensitivity of 32 times that of the standard Saticon was obtained. An amplitude response at 800 TV lines (ITE AR chart) at picture center is about 45%.

A new auto-focus system using quasi condition reasoning has been developed. Quasi condition reasoning method derived from phase analysis of video signal variation. and a new adaptive auto-focus system configuration utilizing condition reasoning, with high image stability attained from investigation of optical system are described.

It is known that 2-dimensional adaptive YC separation filter detects correlation of picture and choses optimum filter. This filter improves crossluminance at noncorrelative part of chrominance. But if wrong detection is given on correlation, it causes crosscolour and makes worse picture quality. We have realized accurate judgement being suitable for the sense of sight by inordinate comparison of noncorrelation energy and developed LSI. This paper mainly describes algorizm of correlative judgement.

The whole elements in the optical system of the CRT rear projection display were examined to improve contrast. We newly introduced a new optical concept of "black level" and applied it to analyze each contribution of components to the contrast. Stray light deeply concerned with the contrast was effectively decreased by optimizing each component in a shortened projection distance system. As a result, we developed a high contrast projection TV set of a small depth for home use.

We studied annealing effect on the crystallinity and the distribution of Tb ions of electron beam evaporated ZnS : TbFs. From X-ray diffraction and STEM images We found that annealing process inproved the crystallinity of ZnS : TbFs becase of increse of grain size. From STEM images and X-ray maps of Tb We found that Tb ions formed groups before annealimng but spred and uniformed after annealing.

We constructed a prototype of ion projection driven electrophoretic display (IPEPD). Ion projection driving method is effective for dot-matrix addressing of display media without threshold characteristics, and its experimental application to electrophoretic display shows the way to realize a large screen display as a public information terminal. And we prepared new electrophoretic suspension which satisfies the condition revealed by the electrical analysis of IPEPD using an equivalent circuit.

The origin of the crosstalk appearing in a highly multiplexed STN LCD was shown to be attributable to the ferroelectric layers in the LC medium formed by the decomposition of LC dimers. The ferroelectric layer provides the transient current which is different from the normal charging-discharging current when a rectangular drive voltage is applied. This transient current is suppressed by using electric conductive orientation films prepared by doping a charge transporting material (CTM). The suppression of the transient current by the CTM-doped orientation films effectively eliminates the crosstalk.
