We propose a hypermedia platform : GOLS (Graphic Oriented Language System) which can process television pictures. GOLS is a kind of PROLOG language with some object-oriented enhancements and class libraries. GOLS processes moving pictures and generates objects corresponding to their recognition level. Then, we propose a live hypermedia system using GOLS's ability, where live informations like television programs can linked with each other as well as with recorded data. We name this kind of link a realtime link.

This paper presents two categories of medical CSCW applications with B-ISDN and SHD imaging technology from collaborative points of view. Then, studying examples of medical CSCW applications, this paper shows requirements for implementing them with technical problems. Using PMTC(Personal Multimedia-multipoint TeleConference) system as a platform, this paper presents a prototype of a medical CSCW system.

Our laboratory is conducting basic research on a virtual space teleconferencing system, Such a system needs to have a large-scale stereoscopic display which does not require the use of special glasses. In this paper, we propose a new stereoscopic display system employing an eye-position tracking technique. This system extends the observable area of stereoscopic images. Furthermore, this paper explains the mechanism of this system, the lenticular screen design and an experimental evaluation of eye-position tracking in virtual space

The screen brightness of a liquid crystal projector is enhanced more than 1.5 times by a planar microlens array attached to an incident surface of a thin film transistor-addressed liquid crystal light valve. Each microlens is so arranged as to focus the incident light on the corresponding pixel aperture. The optimum design of the planar microlens array is a honey-comb-like closed packing structure. A single-panel liquid crystal projector is also developed by combining RGB mosaic color filter with the microlens array.

Force sensation is important for manipulating the objects in real space. This paper discusses effects of force feedback on the human operator in a virtual work space. For the virtual work space, we have proposed a new interface device,named SPIDAR(SPace Interface Device for Artificial Reality). It can measure each position of two fingers and give to each finger force-feedback using motors. We made the experiment for the Pick-and-Place task to show the effect of force feedback in the virtual work space with SPIDAR. This task involves the consecutive operations of holding, moving, and putting objects which are common actions of humans.

This paper proposes that EMG patterns can be analyzed and classified by a neural network model. Through experiments and real-time simulations, it is shown that recognition of joint angles in continuously finger movement, based on EMG patterns, can be successfully accomplished. We also demonstrate an EMG controlled 5 fingers 10 joints robot hand.

We have been studying the Virtual Studio which allows video producers to create various studio shots on a desktop workspace as if those are shot in a real studio. In the Virtual Studio, electronically generated or stored sets, actors and a camera are integrated in the virtual workspace, and producers can manipulate them through specially designed man-machine interfaces. Recently, we have developed a prototype of the Virtual Studio. It can realize virtual shooting where two pre-recorded actors are acting in the virtual sets generated by real-time computer graphics. In this paper, we discuss the prototype of the Virtual Studio and its application to Desktop Program Production(DTPP).

In order to realize coexistence in a collaborative workspace, support of real interactions to the topical object is important. This paper proposes a new remote collaboration system using tele motion control unit. Using this system, we can directly handle the actual object at other site, and also we can see the actual object from the various viewpoints. Two prototype systems have been implemented. The system mainly consists of motion unit, motion unit controller, multi camera and multi display for displaying the workspace at other site.
