Experimental results on document file server system employing multi-vendor remote terminals with X-window system is reported. A new program dealing with image coded documents was developed on a UNIX workstation with rewritable optical disk subsystem. Ethemet and TCP/IP were also emploied as a communication protocol. The X-window systems installed on both file server and remote terminal operated as if a transparent I/O buss from a image csded document file server to the CRT on a remote terminal. A browsing speed 4 second/page for 4 dots/mm documents and that 2 second/page for 2 dots/mm documents were obtaind.
We have developed the MUSE videodisc with a playback time of 60 minutes per side by doubling the disc recording density and using the optical pick-up with a 670nm LD. Two kinds of PCM stereo sound (time-division and frequency-division multiplexing) is recorded. High quality playback image with 43.5 dB S/N free from crosstalk is obtained by the disc with the linear velocity of 14 m/s and the track pitch of 1.12 μm.
Rapid development of computer system components such as optical disks, VLSI memories and RISC CPU is increasins the system capacity much enough for images. One of such system is so called an image filing syetem, which is currently being applied to medicine. In medical field, we need a compact medium of both high capacity and full compatibility. For this purpose, ISAC (Image Save And Carry) is very promossing. This paper tells the current status of ISAC project and introduces the ISAC format.
