    We made automatic helicopter tracking system, using GPS data, which can turn transmitting microwave antenna to the receiving base station. It send GPS RS data output to right side audio channel of base station, calculates direction of helicopter and controls receiving antenna using personal computer. We did few changes in control logic board, made interface board and software. Therefor, We realized that the system cost is very low and we have been receiving good response from users.

    In NTV, transmiting signals from outside vehicles to the center studio, helicopters are often used. To satisfy the various demands of the programs. Multi-channel transmission is needed and repeaters sometimes has to be located on complicated places such as mountain tops. This paper describes a portable auto-tracking multi-band microwave reception device. This system has the advantage of less connection cables for easier operation.

    Until now, it is thought that it is impossible to super impose directly to the EDTV-II signal without any interference on the decoded picture. We developed two new technologies which enables to super impose directly to the EDTV-II signal. The one is VT dispersion and the other is HH elimination. We have simulated these technologies on the computer and confirmed that it is effective. After that, we made the down stream keyer for practical use.

    February 10th of this year, involving a crash of a local-line bus and a vehicle, the collapse of a base rock in the Toyohama Tunnel in Hokkaido ended in a tragedy with the deaths of 20 people. Today, NHK would like to report how we coped with this accident by relay broadcasting throughout the country day and night.

    During the Atlanta Olympics, on top of the conventional NTSC broadcast, NHK carried out a co-production of HDTV broadcast with ZDF (Zweites Deutsch Fernsehen). This co-production was also done during the previous Olympics in Lillehammer. NHK and ZDF broadcast the coverage of the Opening and Closing ceremony and 12 athletic events, by sharing each other's HDTV international coverage of the Olympic games. In Japan, HDTV Olympic coverage for the Atlanta Games was broadcast for an average of 17 hours a day, exceeding 276 hours. Further, because of the new developments in transmission technology, NHK was able to acheive live transmission for about half of the total HDTV broadcast hours during the Atlanta Olympics.
