The human interface of video switcher using a personal computer is newly developed. In this system, all the operations are implemented With a mouse and keyboard instead of a large operation panel. Consequently the Space factor is greatly improved and very easy operation could be obtained. Furthermore, the future style of switcher human interface is described.

In addition to Broadcasting Satellites. TV broadcast and PCM sound broadcast through domestic communications satellites have started recently. This CS broadcast is transmitted with linear poralization (Vertical and Horizontal) useing two communications satellites orbit located in 8 degree separation and it requires new reception technics different from the conventional BS reception technics. In case- of a community antenna receiving system, new channel rearrangement technic is required, because. a part of CS-IF and BS-IF frequency bands overlaps each other.

In May 1992, for the first time, a team visited islands in the Northern territory above-Hokkaido -Kunashiri, Shikotan and Etoroiu-without taking visas. As a press delegation, the team brought a portable earth station into the islands, and succeeded in relaying TV broadcast via a domestic communication satellite (JCSAT). Following are the details of this succesful operation. Expected values of the satellite transmission and the actual measured results are also reported.

We developed a prototype QPSK demodulator for digital DBS receivers. It uses a digital AFC and a digital PLL for fast and stable carrier recovery. Experimental results showed the sufficient performance of the demodulator even under the severe condition of ±2.4MHz frequency offset. In addition, a computer simulation showed that the hardware can be downsized effectively using an approximation of Taylor expansion.

Standard conversion from MUSE to NTSC is necessary for conventional TVs to receive programs transmitted in the MUSE format. we have developed a system and two ICs that convert the MUSE signal to the NTSC format, and produced SAU-500MN, a MUSE-NTSC con-In this system, only the intra-field signal processing is applied to the whole picture in order to make the cost effective. Three types of screen modes based on the differences in the aspect ratio between MUSE and conventional TV are realized in this system.
