This paper describes the transmission performance of a L-MSK digital modulation method for FM multiplex broadcasting for mobile reception. The L-MSK is a kind of MSK, of which the injection level is controlled by a (L-R) signal deviation. The difference of bit error rates between L-MSK and other digital modulation methods is shown. Field tests have been carried out in the FM broadcasting service area. It is obtained that this system can get a transmission capacity of approximately 16kbps.

This paper describes a new signal processing method for motion area of MUSE system. It enbles us to realize better picture quality. The point of this method is to apply an inter-field singnal processing to motion area. Using motion pictures, we have done a computer simulation about it and have got a good resulut. It is easy to adopt it for the MUSE encoder and decoder.

The ISDB transmission system in the 12GHz band using transmission bit-rate 24, 32, 40Mbps with error correction codes has been investigated. Service quality of Digital TV, considered a main service in ISDB, is better than that of FM-TV in most of sevice time. If advances in video source coding techniques are channel. And basic construction for the ISDB transmission signal format which provides flexibility by allowing different multiplexing signals is shown.

Digital transmission schemes for the next generation satellite broad-casting have been investigated. QPSK, OQPSK and MSK are considered. The transponder of BS-3 is assumed for the transmission characteristic. The protection ratio and C/N ratio to be required for digital services are employed for the evaluation. As a result, QPSK modulation is the most suit-able for 40.96Mbps transmission in the 12GHz band satellite broadcasting.

In the letterbox system, the transmission noise added on the top and bottom bars is expanded at the receiver. Being caused by this, its spectrum is compressed to the lower frequencies, resulting in the increase of the weighted power. This paper calculates the weighted noise power in the cases of 360 lines and 480 lines progressive systems, when they are transmitted by baseband,VSB-AM and FM.

The authors have developed letter-box method wide aspect EDTV system, in which a vertical-temporal helper signal with 480TV-lines vertical resolution is transmitted in the top and bottom mask portions. Experiments clarified that dynamic resolution is sufficiently improved by this helper signal, but there are artifacts due to narrow frequency bandwidth of helper signal. Thus, vertical resolution of helper signal is changed to 360TV-lines to widen the bandwidth.
