This paper describes the outline of a multi-media teleconference terminal CT-1,in which editing, storage, and distribution function of conference materials are integrated as well as audio and visual information transmission function. As the conference material, various kinds of visual information can be used, such as materials consisting of character codes and geometric figures represented by CAPTAIN PLPS, and full-color pictures encoded by ABTC. The conference materials stored in a CT-1's magnetic disk are sent to the other's beforehand, so as to cut down the transmission time during the conference. Telewriting on the displayed material is possible during the conference.

An image coded document storage system using newly developed rewritable magneto-optical disks with virtual-drive jukebox is examined. The jukebox machine is designed that it works as an optical drive as if mounting a 13 GByte disk. Access from a host to the individual medium is provided on one dimensional address space. This storage device can offer a closed file system even with removable media as well as it can do an open file system. An apllication example is realized, that deals with image coded documents. They are stored on one of the optical media through an image scanner, code compressor, and the cartridge manager in battery-backuped controller of the jukebox. Document storage software is easily developed because it is unnecessary for the programs to manage optical disk cartridges in the jukebox.

We have been studying audio graphic conference (AGC) service and its protocol based on the existing telematic services and their protocols. In this paper, the fundamental requirements for point-to-point AGC are discussed at first. Second, we present the point-to-point AGC in line with DTAM (Document Transfer, Access and Manipulation), which has standardized at CCITT SG VIII in this study period. Furthermore, we discuss the fundamental requirements of multi-point AGC and its protocol. Finally, we propose the protocol architecture for AGC, which is applicable to the multi-point configuration as well as point-to-point configuration.

The video conferencing wil be the most popular service in the broadband ISDN. First, this paper discusses the functional requirements for the video conferencing. The main problem is how to realize the multipoint connection. this paper compares a few multipoint connection methods and shows that the method to distribute the video signal in a few switches can decreases the required link capacity. Further, this paper shows a method for distributed connection in the switching system oriented asynchronous transfer mode.
