1.The contrast thresholds for complex patterns containing static and dynamic gratings were measured as a function of background contrast, and the contrast interrelations between static and dynamic gratings were examined.2.The contrast interrelation for the spatial frequency of 0.66 c/deg was dependent on the temporal frequency of the test gratings.3.Under the conditions of the low spatial frequencies (0.66 and 1 c/deg) and the high temporal test frequency (6.3 Hz), the contrast interrelation had the constant function which could be precicted by the multiple channel model.4.These findings are consistent with the multiple channel hypothesis, but inconsistent with the single channel hypothesis.5.It is, therefore, concluded that spatial frequency detectors have a multiple mechanism with different temporal filters.
