An experimental HDTV digital video cassette recorder(VCR) with a high efficiency picture coding method has been developed for consumer use. This VCR is capable of recording both HDTV base-band signal and MUSE signal on a 1/2-in, tape small cassette for 3 hours, and realizes special-effects playback such as search and slow. This article describes the techniques used to realize a new HDTV digital VCR and some experimental results.

We have developed a Hi-Vision gallery system in which newly developed Hi-Vision equipments are organized effectively. The features of this system are easy operation, and also systematical and simultaneous control for many different equipments. Then, it can realize interesting video program utilizing both moving and still pictures with an uniformed scenario. By the development of this Hi-Vision gallery system, we have established the technology which enables us to systematize general systems.

we propose a new ghost canceling method for training algorithm. The essential point of the method is outer band reference signal to reduce the influence of noise coring. Using simulation equipments, we have confirmed the fact that the method not only reduces the influence of the residual noise in the training waveform but also stabilizes the tap coefficients in the outer band.

Experimental results on a remote retrieval from a document file server via an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) are reported. The document server mainly consists of a UNIX workstation and a 130-mm rewritable magneto-optical disk subsystem. The experimentally measured time for retrieving one page at a remote terminal is 1.5 seconds within a 10-Mbps local-area network and 2.0 seconds within a 1.5-Mbps ISDN.

The multiple-access technology concept for a moving picture is presented in this paper. By means of the transfer rate gap between reading from storage and sending to users should realize this technology. The multiple-access technology is essential for the development of commercial system involving visual database service or on-demand moving picture service. These services will achieve our goal of 'any time, any program to anyone'.

A classical Album has three major functions as storage, presentation and retrieval. To present these functions on Home Electronic Album, we are proposed a new logical format by means of two kinds of template, that are called Ideal structure plate and Real structure plate. We have developed Proto-system, that is conformed to this new format and is composed of 3.5inch magneto optical disk drive. JPEG decorder consisted of original LSI chips and the others. In this system, high quality still pictur and BGM using MIDI data are able to be reproduced. The average waiting time for reproducing two objects at a time is less than 270msec. The ability of this high speed reproduction makes appreciation smoothly and makes simple operation with retrieval by turning the pages quickly.
