Live X-ray Topography is a technique for observing crystal defects or crystal growth in real time. The technique requires highly sensitive pickup devices because of the small image signal produced by X-ray diffraction. In visible light, the Super-HARP tube using avalanche multiplication in an amorphous selenium photoconductive target, has been found to be about 100 times as sensitive as conventional camera tubes. We applied this technology to X-ray pickup tube. Absorption of X-rays in an a-Se photoconductor is different from that of visible light. But the X-ray HARP camera tube is over 10 times as sensitive as the conventional X-ray SATICON tube by using a thick photoconductive target.

A new large area flat CRT consists of a multitude blocks connected in the horizontal direction. For each block, a filament cathode is extended in the vertical direction, a modulation electrode is placed in a parallel position behind the cathode, the vertical addressing electrodes are aligned perpendicular to the modulation electrodes, and the horizontal deflecting erectrodes are placed on either side of the cathode. Because of its simple construction, low production cost may be achieved. This paper reports the optimum configuration of this new large area flat CRT.

A new lighting element for high-resolution large-screen video displays was developed by the use of a new electrode structure " X and Y backplane control electrode", and new methods for decreasing the dead space of lighting elements. This new element, HR- FM-CRT ( High-Resblution-Flat-Matrix-CRT ), uses cathodoluminescent phosphors and contains 64 pixels arranged in 8x8 matrices with a pixel pitch of 7.5 mm, which is half of the previous FMCRT. Therefore the screen using this new element produces high-resolution high-quality images.

We propose here the new integrated light emitting device array with shift register logic function for photo-printer head, which consists of the SLED shift register and light emitting thyrsitors for photo-printing. The SLED, self-scanning light emitting device, consists of the pnpn-thyristor array whose gates are connected one,another through the resistor and diode network. The new integrated device array for the photo-printer head has some merits as compared with conventional LED array. For example, there are no need to drive the integrated light emitting device array, and the numbers of bonding-wire are remarkably decreased. Therefore the cost and the size of the photo-printer head can be reduced and the fine photo-printer head can be realized.

It is said that the man machine interface is the key technology to familiarize the computer in the field of the general office. We think that the man machine interface same as the general office environment based on the paper is the solution for this purpose. The key technologies to realize above circumstance are (1 )handwritten object recognition,(2)true paper like display and (3)the software which can treat formatted document without explicit command input. This paper presents current situation for above technologies which has been developed for almost ten years in our group.

We have developed a high resolution and high density FLC light valve This light valve has 1.6 million pixels and 1.7 inches diagonal display area. 24μm pixel pitch and 4μ m space between pixels are realized by the ultra-fine etching process. High contrast ratio and high efficiency are achieved by Field-Induced-Black-Matrix, This light valve which is driven by the newly developed driving scheme can display a moving image without a flicker. A fast responding display is obtained by applying a partial access writing method to our light valve. The projection display system has been experimentally realized and has been proved to have operating ability for workstation.

The self-aligned poly-Si TFTs have been fabricated on glass substrates at a low temperature below 450℃ by a new method. which consists of two techniques : the laser induced crystallization of PECVD amorphous silicon and an ion doping process that utilizes a large diameter ion beam with non mass separation and following low temperature activation anneal. The optical performances of the LC-TVs by this method were studied and compared to those of the inverted staggered TFT LC-TVs.
