A human interface design appropriate for multi-media teleconference is described. First, subjects to be settled in designing a human interface of multi-media teleconference system are analysed. Based on this, a designing method of menu laylout within a window peculiar to such conference is proposed. Next, an effective manipulation of multi-media is studied through the consideration on an ideal presentation of multi-media information. Finally, the result of the above studies are implemented in a prototype of Personal Multi-media TeleConference system.

This paper proposes a Personal Video Terminal System for interactive visual messaging services. Main aspects of the terminal are storage and editing functions of compressed audio and video signals, using a video CODEC for teleconference. In order to make this system for useful visual messaging services, easy-to-use multimedia editor and high-speed multimedia message transfer protocol have been developed.

Musical systems, which the authors have developed during past ten years, are described from the view point of the multi-media interface. They are classified into two categories. One is the media transformation systems to make different types of music descriptions such as music score, braille score, and musical performance interchangeable. The other is the real time performance control systems by the use of computer vision techniques. The authors' basic idea on man-machine interface of computer music system is also clarified.
