The standard for serial HDTV interfaces was established by BTA in April 1995. This paper describes outlines of the serial HDTV interfaces specification, contents of technical considerations, and results of transmission test. The standard for the serial HDTV interface consists of the bit stream format for transmission and physical characteristics of both coaxial cable and optical fiber interfaces. Many issues on the serial interfaces were considered, and such issues as synchronization, DC offset and equalization are described in this paper. The test was carried out on many items, and it was confirmed that the serial interfaces could be sufficiently applied to practical use.
