Genetic Algorithms (GA) are known as powerful algorithms for searching, optimizing and for a lot of applications in the field of computer science. This paper describes applications of GA to reseaches especially concerned with images, i.e., pattern recognition of images, image processing and so on. Basic principles of GA are introduced briefly, and then, three researches are explained; a pattern matching of two dimensional shapes using GA, extraction of straight lines from noisy binary images by GA and evolution of neural networks utilizing GA.

Most educational softwares used in elementary schools are drill types,or guiding types to give high scholarship to children. These softwares ,however, are double for the individual learning of the pupil, the sided : although it is useful children simply become passive learners. Systematic thinking is very important for children to try solving their problems, and to develop this ability and attitude. An educational software tool is , therefore , developed to help both teaching and self-studying of children. A teaching software tool is introduced and explained how to use it

A method which classifies color moving images using their color and motion features is presented. Based on the recognition that the color features of an image contain many clues to understand the image contents, we employ color features such as the types, the positions, the changes and the motion vectors of the prominent colors in the image, and use them to classify images according to the user's defination. To simplify the defination of the image scene to be detected, the "Scene Description Language" (SDL) is also introduced. An user makes the defination of an interested scene just as writing down the things he (she) has seen or imagined from the scene.
