A system that generate handwriting letters is proposed. The proposed system consists of two parts : hardware and software. The hardware part has been setup by implementing minor change to the widely used digitizing equipment. The newly developed pen that may handle the handwriting pressure is the main part of the hardware. In the software part, the obtained data through hardware may be modified, if required, to increase the quality of the input data. The obtained system is assessed by creating sample handwriting letters.

This paper describes a simple human area detection and tracking method using a video signal. The method is composed of the following three steps : (1) the detection of moving blocks using the interframe difference of input video signals, (2) determination of a head position using distributions of moving blocks, and (3) the extraction of a rectangular area which includes the head area. Simulation results indicate that this method is quite accurate for tracking the human image, and is readily applicable to video communications.

Several retrieval methods using keywords, developed for the document database, are generally applied for the image database. In these methods, the"keywordgap"seems to be occured. because keywords are suitable only for the document database in which the keywords appear explicitly, but not for the image database. In this paper. a new retrieval method using the"keyimage"for the image database is proposed. The layout information is one of the most explicit features the image data have in itself. Concerning with the"key-image", the presentation scheme of the layout information and the"layout editor". consisted of a simple graphic processor, are also described.

Since the data given by meteorological satellites covers very wide observation areas and have up-to-date status, many professionals use the data - not only in meteorology but also in oceanography, in fishery, etc. In our laboratory, we developed a data receiving system for the meteorological satellites NOAA and have been receiving the observation data for about the past 5 years. As the amount of data sent from the satellites NOAA becomes very large, we find it difficult to manage it by hand. In addition to this, we have to manage the orbit information and the weather reports sent from the Meteorological Agency. So, we decide to use a database management system on a general purpose computer for managing them. We are building a system which can manage and retrieve a large amount of information efficiently. This paper proposes a method for managing and retrieving the information by using a database management system on a general purpose computer.
