This paper describes tension control in tape transport system for VCR using movable tape guide which is set between supply-reel and cylinder. This movable tape guide is translation motion type, and is driven by voice-coil actuator. And sensor coil for detecting the velocity of tape guide is set side by side with driving coil. In experiment for verification, the magnitude of tension fluctuation is suppressed to about 1/3.
We newly adopted Tracking Servo System for the Segment Recording VTR, and developed track-curve tracing servo (inhibiting false tracking for playback), and developed auto-tracking servo and memory control circuits for a variable speed playback. As the result, following achievement was made. (1) In interchangeable playback, highly stable RF envelope output. (2) Noise-less picture of (x-1 to x2) times speed playback.
A Double Reed-Solomon Codes ECC LSI has been developed. This LSI is capable to correct 8 errors for the inner code of dmin=17, and 4 errors for that of dmin=9. For the outer code of dmin=9, it can make the correction from 4 error - O erasure to O error - 8 erasure.
When we record signal on longitudinally oriented tape in VCRs, the unbalance of the output from + and - azimuth heads happens, because head output depends on angle between head magnetic field direction and tape orientation direction and moreover depends on azimuth angle. The track angle dependence of head output level was measured on Co-Ni obliquely evaporated tape (ME tape), and we optimized the azimuth angle, which can balance the output level.
