A new image-sensing method has been studied in order to reduce the size and cost of a consumer use HD camera with CCDs. The number of pixels has been minimized keeping the picture quality sufficient for home use by considering the suitability to the component video signal with a line-sequential chrominance signal expressed as Y:P_B:P_R = 4:1:0 which is commonly used in package media. As a result of frequency analysis and image simulation, the high resolution of more than 700 TV lines for both horizontal and vertical directions has been obtained using 3 CCDs with 0.43 Mpixels each. This has been attained by the newly developed color signal processing algorithm in which the way of pixel arrangement and signal processing has been optimized by using both 2-dimensional pixel arrangement method and sub-sampling image-sensing method.

Imaging Plate(IP) is a new type 2-dimentional sensor which is developed for X-ray diagnostic images. The imaging plate is consist of photostimulable phosphor which can store the energy of ionizing radiation and emits photo-stimulated luminescence (PSL) by visible light radiation. The PSL is detected and converted to image data. The IP is characteristic of high sensitivity, good linearity and wide dynamic-range. Utilizing these characteristics the IP is applied to other fields in addition to diagnostic images. We introduce the principle and the application of the IP.

An intelligence robot camera system for broadcast use has been developed which automatically follows moving object in the picture. The video output signal from this camera is processed to generate movement data required to the pan and tilt head and the lens servo system. This landmark system's feature is real time following operation and any desirable camera shot is available at anytime.

The development of broadcasting technology has made animated pictures the main stream of programs, and by inserting still pictures we provide more information to the pictures produced by CG. This also makes the program itself even better understandable. At NTV ,we now hold 12.0000 photo materials and the number is expected to increase in the future. We have introduced a still picture library system in order to utilize the materials efficiently.

The First Full Digital Video Editing System for HDTV programme production in NHK came into operation in the past April. The Most powerful tool in video post production means that layering video can be repeated itself without any deteriorations in picture quality as many times as editors want. These Fascilities let you have reality. Digital color correcting devices enable us to correct color conditions in materials for optimum result in the digital domain. Various kind of video effect can be also provided if utilizing the video switcher as well as a three dimensional video effector. A long-awaited digital chroma keyer is now being developped and it will be the great advantage for much more natural video compositing. It is expected to expand possiblities for new era in video post production for HDTV.
