An intruder detection equipment, MP30,using an image processing based on the block matching method, has been developed. In this equipment, the intruder motion is extracted by estimating the block matching differences, and by a suitable threshold which is determined from its motion vector. The techniques make it possible to remove troublesome noise under various outdoor and indoor enviroments, such as rapid changing in sunlight, swaying of trees, rippling on river and flickering of illuminators. The MP30 provides the stable surveillance for security and safety.

In a non-guaranteed QOS network, some coded video frames cannot be decoded correctly and the quality of the following decoded video frames, whose reference is the lost frame, is degraded significantly when we adopt a conventional inter frame coding technique such as in H.261 and MPEG. Loss of consecutive frames are more harmful. In order to remedy the situation, we propose a new inter frame coding scheme in this paper. The coder replaces the reference frame dynamically according to the acknowledgment signal from the decoder. We show the simulation results on the scheme as well.

Owing to the increase in the bandwidth of LAN environment such as ATM-LAN, services carried over office network are being expanded from conventional text based services to multimedia services which include realtime audiovisual data. On the other hand, in the PC world, the performance of CPU and the throughput of internal bus have been rapidly improved and becoming ready to cope with multimedia application that deals realtime audiovisual data. Taking account of the above mentioned circumstances, a PC based audiovisual client system has been developped. The system is equipped with a network interface card on the market and a newly developped MPEG-2 decoder card with standard PCI local bus interface. The system has been confirmed to realize high quality audiovisual services such as office VOD.

Power system, Which is composed of widely spread facilities from Power station to distribution line, have to be quickly restored in case of damage caused by disaster such as large earthquake, large typhoon. The important things for the restoring operation are to grasp the situation quickly and correctly, and to make proper plan of counteraction. We constructed "Supporting System for Emergency Operation Center" which supports information gathering and command/report transmitting activity at the emergency. This Paper reports overview of the supporting system and features of the system such as flexibility to fit various purposes, purpose-depending patterned operation for simplified operation, linkage with existing system to achieve the lowest cost.

A multimedia platform integrating groupware with multimedia on demand is proposed. The multimedia platform integrates stored information retrieving with realtime bi-directional communication, and the integration is realised by cooperation of groupware servers MCU (Multipoint Control Unit)s with multimedia on demand servers. Cooperation protocols are developed to realise the servers' cooperation without any modification to the existing servers. Multimedia synchronization control scheme for realtime communication is also provided. Multimedia office systems developed on this platform provides both realtime and stored video naturally synchronized with audio to the users.

A virtual campus environment has been realized using multi-media personal computers, networked servers and the ISDN digital network. A campus architecture such as a plaza, a lounge, a shop, and a club house have been created as the shared 3-D graphic virtual space. Communication between users in this shared environment is supported by use of videos, audios and drawings. Evaluation of this environment for real usage by students of English schools has been described.
