The 15th International Display Research Conference (Asia Display'95) was held at Hamamatsu ACT CITY in Hamamatsu, Japan on October 16-18,1995. The International Display Workshop'95 was held on the day after Asia Disp1ay'95 on the same site. Attendees were 1170 (22Countries) in Asia Display'95 and 672 in IDW'95. In particular, Takayanagi Memorial Session (6invited papers) was arranged in commemration of late Prof. Kenjiro Takayanagi, known forhis distinguished and pioneering research in the development of TV systems. And 36 oral sessions. 15 poster sessions were featured during 3 days in conference.

This report reviews 13 papers in 4 sessions about polymer dispersed LC, FLC & AFLC, Passive-Matrix LCDs(1) and Passive-Matrix LCDs(2) in Asia Display'95. Concerning the contents, there are reflective cholesteric LC, light shutter of polymer stabilized cholesteric texture with dichroic dye and r eflective cholesteric/polymer dispersed display using polyester substrate in polymer dispersed technologies, there are PM-AF-LCD and AM-TLAF-LCD, temperature dependence of tilted bookshelf structures in FLC, driving method for decreasing temperature dependence and multi-frame driving method for displaying many gray levels in FLC/AFLC technologies, there are 3 papers of driving method for fast response STN-LCD and there are a OMI display using the polymer stabilization, a polymer matrix STN-LCD and a bistable twisted nematic LCD with fast response and wide viewing angle. I think that reflective type LCD and fast response LCD will be widely researched by many researchers.

This report covers following sessions in Asia Display'95 ; wide Viewing Angle LCDs (session S23) and optical elements for LCDs (session S32). As for wide viewing angle LCD, there are 4 papers, including new display mode which is not based on TN mode, polymer stabilized bend mode, and dual domain alignment technology. Concerning optical elements for LCD lighting, there 4 papers. A topic is related to compact LCD projector, 2topics are for improving yield of backlight by changing polarized wrong light, and one is focused on once collimating light at backlight module and diffusing after transmitted of panel.

This report summarizes papers from MIM-LCDs (S3) and Poly-SiTFTs(S15,S16) sessions related AMLCD Technologies in Asia Display'95. Three papers were presented in S3,and effect of top electrode material, MIM-PDLC, Diamond-Like-Carbon MIM-LCDs were reported. Also, seven papers were presented in S15 and S16,and low-temperature deposition of poly-Si, ion-doping, laser activation, laser crystallised poly-Si circuits, 10.4 inch diagonal LCD (with external LSI) and 3.7 inch diagonal driver monolithic LCD were reported.

Reports on Active Matrix Type LCD Technology [AM-LCD (2)] are summarized for Asia Display 1995 International Symposium. Reports were mainly on TFT-LCDs and some were on MIM devices and color filters. There were many topics concerning gate line metal, plastic substrate MIM LCD, low cost array process and low cost color filter. The most appealed topics may be the in-plane switching mode TFT-LCD with extraordinary wide viewing angle comparable to CRT.

Main topics in El devices are improvements of Blue emission both at an organic and an inorganic type EL. Color plasma display panels are quite prosperous for just being about creating a new large display market.
