    The Videotex system is accessible to many kinds of information via telephone line from the home or office, and is widely used in Japan (This is called CAPTAIN system). Demand for Videotex applications such as real-estate or car dealing have recently increased so that the Videotex with high quality picture and digital sound is required. The newly developed Digital Videotex Terminal can handle text, graphics which are compatible with the CAPTAIN system, and natural still image and ADPCM voice. This paper gives an outline of this Terminal.

    A multimedia system used CD-ROM has been developed. The multimedia system can treat with several kind of data, video, still image, audio and graphics. This system is controlled by video game machine. A hybrid coding method is adopted for video compression. This is based on DCT and inter-frame prediction. This paper describes the video coding algorithm, synchronization method between video and audio data. Also, the developed multimedia system is introduced.

    A Portable CD-ROM XA Player is a new concept multi-media tool corresponding with CD-ROM XA format. This player consists of a CD-ROM drive, a 5" full color TFT LCD screen, and a retractable tablet. It is 70 mm height, has A4 size footprint, 3kg in weight, and runs on batteries for portable operation. Two sample discs are produced by using the newly authoring system for this player. One of those discs is "TAHITI" for presentation sample, and another one is "World Beer" for graphic database sample.

    The Data Discman model DD-1 is a small, portable electronic book player. This product makes CD-ROMs easy to use and inexpensive, thus greatly expanding the CD-ROM and electronic publishing market. This paper explains the hardware and software of the Data Discman electronic book player and the associated Electronic Book discs.
