Two enzyme preparations which destroy blood group A activity were obtained from culture filtrate of
Cl. Tertium A, H, Le
a. The first enzyme preparation deacetylates
N-acetylgalactosamine in group A substance without development of H activity. The second enzyme preparation deacetylates
N-acetylgalactosamine in A substance and then liberates galactosamine by galactosaminidase with enhancement of H activity.
40.3% of the human sera contained an agglutinin which reacted with
N-deacetylase treated group A red cells (A
deac). The cross-reacting agglutinin with A
deac and group B red cells was found in some group A sera.
N-deacetylase treated group A saliva and A substance inhibited the agglutination of A
deac red cells by human serum.
