This paper describes the video transmission system for the private network. It is considered that the slotted ring LAN is fitted for high speed multimedia LAN. At first, the requirement for video and voice transmission is studied. And the function division and packetization method are also shown. Furthermore, the outline of the experimental system is also shown.

This report describes the configuration and functions of a video terminal developed for ATM, which is the dominant mode in Broadband-lSDN. This terminal consists of a Variable Bit-Rate video codec, an audio codec and an ATM adapter. The video codec assures constant picture quality. Furthermore it ensures cell loss robustness. The ATM adapter multiplexes video and audio data and provides a virtual channel for them on ATM networks.

Parallax in facial images is one of the problems to be solved in visual communication systems. We propose a new parallax correction scheme using a simplified 3D facial model. In the proposed scheme, a 2D facial image with Parallax is converted into a 3D image and a parallax-corrected image is obtained by projecting the 3D image in an appropriate direction. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified experimentally.

The goal of this study is to develop a expert system whitch estimates weather information using images of Mt.Ohyama. In this paper, a method to analyse the causal association of weather condition and images is proposed. And the possibility of weather estimation only from parameters obtained by image analysis is presented. For months, twice a day, we have taken photographs of Mt.Ohyama and have recorded the weather information. Using distributions of parameters obtained by image analysis, certainty factors are calcurated and images are classified into four weather conditions. Effectiveness of this method is confirmed experimentally.

Hand gesture recognition is a key technology to make man-machine interface more friendly. However, lack of robust gesture recognition-techniques inhibits the use of gestures. To build 3D graphic enviroment which can be manipulated by hand gestures, we propose a method of hand shape representation by finger tip positions. Using this method, an experiment on static hand gesture recognition has been done. The results show this method can be extended for the use of dynamic hand gesture recognition.
