    A new CCD TV camera has been developed, which employs three Pre-Processing CCD image sensors featuring charge summation of four pixels and spatially and temporally offset subsampling. The proposed method results in high sensitivity and wide dynamic range while suppressing the decrease in resolution.

    It is difficult to measure characteristics of HDTV CCDs exactly, because of clock noise which frequency is more than 30MHz. So we developed Automatic Measurement System for HDTV CCDs. Using this system, we can measure HDTV CCDs more exactly and in shorter time than former method using oscilloscope. This system can also display histograms, spectra by FFTs and wave forms of filtered signal by processing the output signal of CCDs.

    A newly HDTV camera for studio use is developed. This camera which employs newly developed one-inch HARP tubes provides high quality color pictures. This camera is able to gain 32 times maximum sensitivity compared with conventional HDTV SATICON camera. This camera's AR (amplitude response) is more than 40% at 800TV lines. A camera control unit (CCU) is designed to operate fine adjustment.

    A 1-inch all electrostatic HARP tube, that is newly developed by NHK, has both higher sensitivity (32 times higher than the standard SATICON tube) and higher resolution (amplitude response at 800 TVL is 45%). Employing these new tubes of high sensitivity, our new Hi-Vision camera can achieve the highest sensitivity but also higher signal to noise ratio by operating in the large signal current mode, still keeping advantage of high sensitivity.

    A 2/3 inch CCD HDTV hand-held camera has been developed to meet the demand for a small, light, and maintenance-free HDTV camera. We discussed the design of CCDs and the pickup system, taking account of state-of-art VLSI technology and the required performance of an HDTV camera. We came to the conclusion that 1.3 million was the best for the number of pixels of CCDs. In order to compensate for the shortage of resolution, we have selected dual-green pickup system and employed spatially-offset method. This paper describes the discussion and the features of the new camera.
