In the usual manner relationships between exposures and densities, and some values of photographic materials derived from this relationships are obtained graphically. The author attempted to obtain these relationships and values calculatively by using mathematical models.
Three mathematical models were established for photographic characteristic curves of color reversal films. After a numerical analysis of parameters employed in three models density values were calculated from values of the parameters and were compared with density values obtained by experiment. Consequently it was found that two optimum models existed for photographic characteristic curves of color reversal films. Calculatively obtained values of speed, gamma and contrast from the parameters employed in the optimum model were nearly equal to graphically obtained values. Values of the parameters and values calculated from these values did not show a violent change with changes of sampling interval on exposure.

The rates of growth and decay of latent-image specks in the developer were calculated numerically, on the basis of the assumption that the specific rates of growth and decay of Agn specks were proportional to Fermi distribution of electrons in the lowest unoccupied level of Ag+n and to Fermi distribution of electron vacancies in the highest occupied level of Ag+n respectively. As the energies of the levels, the values estimated by Trautweiler were adopted. Rate equations (1-m) were set up for the growth and decay of Ag+n and solved by the steady state approximation method or Runge-Kutta-Gill method under appropriate boundary conditions. Following 1)-4) were showed; 1) An unexposed pure silver halide grain was reduced very slowly in the developer (Fig. 2). Once the grain had a speck which provided the lowest unoccupied level as high as or lower than Fermi level of the developer onto the surface of the grain, the grain could be reduced rapidly in the developer (Fig. 3, 4). 2) When the highest occupied level of the speck was as high as or higher than Fermi level of the developer, the speck was bleached rapidly to Ag+n by the developer (Fig. 3) and then grew very slowly to a developing center similarly to other Ag+n's. 3) If Fermi level of the developer lay intermediately between the lowest unoccupied level and the highest occupied level of a speck, a part of the specks grew to the developing centers and the other part decayed to Ag+n's at rather slow rates (Fig. 3, Table 1). Such a speck acted as a sublatent-image in the development. 4) There was an induction period of the formation of developing center from Ag+n and its period was prolonged with decreasing n of the Ag+n (Fig. 4).

In the previous paper, it was reported that the dyes of 3-Methyl-1.-phenyl-4-(p-diethylaminophenyl) imino-2-pyrazoline-5-one and 2-Acetamido-N-(p-diethylaminophenyl) benzoquinone monoimine were easily faded by exposure to light in the solution containing EDTA-Fe (III).
The light fading scheme recognized that EDTA-Fe (III) was reduced to EDTA-Fe (II) by light in the first step, then the latter reduced the dyes to form leuco dyes.
In this paper, the scheme was elucidated by polarographic method. The dyes were bleached by electrolytic reduction on a cathode to form the leuco dyes which are identical with the light fading products.
Some polarographic data show that two electrons and two protons take part in the fading reaction of the dyes.
Accordingly, the light fading scheme can be expressed by the following equation.
    EDTA-Fe(III)→hvEDTA-Fe(II)
    Dye+2EDTA-Fe (II) +2H+→H2Dye (leuco dye) +2EDTA-Fe (III)

In order to elucidate the effect of molecular structure of charge transfer complexes on the photoconductivity and electrical conductivity, charge transfer complexes were synthesized. Spectrophotometric measurement revealed a new absorption band to the complex of 2-methyl-imidazole (donor) and quinones (acceptor). The absorption maximum of complexes shifted to the longer wavelength than the acceptor used.
The equilibrium constant and molar extinction coefficient was determined by using the Scott's equation. These values are quite low, respectively. The continuous method, infrared data and elementary analyses indicate the structure forming a 2: 1 complex with the acceptor sandwiched between two donor molecules.
Electrical conductivity was found to be in the following order of electron acceptors;α-naphthoquinone>chloranil>bromanil>benzoquinone. Photoconductivity at 230 nm was enhanced in the following order of electron acceptors; benzoquinone≅bromanil>α-naphthoquinone>chloranil.
