The reaction between the oxidation product of hydroquinone and amino acids (glycine, lysine, and arginine) was studied, using voltammetry at stationary and rotating ring-disc gold electrodes. The reaction products were strong reductants with very negative half-wave potentials (ca.-0.5 V vs. NHE), and the rate constants were 5.8, 14, and 3.5 mol
-1 1 s
-1 for glycine, lysine, and arginine, respectively.
