It is significant in planning of those facilities, such as hospitals, old peoples' houses, especially, pysically disabled children's facilities, to know activities of those patients in daily life, from the achitectural view points. In this first paper, we report actural conditions of the patients, such as; kinds of sick, ages, sex, treatment terms, disabled parts, equipments of wards and so on, in the investigated facilities. Total numbers of patients investigated are 1, 388 beds of 7 facilities (3 hospitals, 2 old peoples houses, 2 disabled children's facilities). CONCLUSIONS (A) Hospitals : In general hospitals, there are not many disabled patients (13% of total patients : 4.3% in surgery, 3.8% in plastic surgery). However, in rehabilitational hospital disabled patients are found 28.5% in total patients. As regards of the equipment for the activity of the disabled patients' daily lify, those hospital are not enough designed; a few wheel chairs can be used freely and it is difficult to find out special architectural details for the disabled, on the meanwhile, the nurses for a ward are so few enough to look after them. (B) Old people's houses : The percentage of the disabled in hospitals for the aged and old people's houses are 21% and 11%, and they are also not designed well. Although, the old people in the special treatment facility are almost disabled (70.3%). This facilty is well equiped for the disabled. (C) Physical disabled children's facilities : All of patients are disabled naturally. Remarkablly, almost all of them are disabled in both of their arms and legs. Those facilities are well designed with special hand made equipments. And many nurses, though not enough, are taking care them very well with their special effort.
