A technique for fitting the multi-dimensional time-varying autoregressive model to a set of three components of earthquake ground motion and for generating the three dimensional nonstationary stochastic process from the fitted model are proposed. From section 2 to section 3, Levinson-Durbin's recursive algorithm for fitting the time-invariant autoregressive model to an observed data sequence of a stationary process, generalized Levinson-Szego's algorithm for solving general prediction problems and Monden-Yamada-Arimoto's fast recursive algorithm for tracking both orders and parameters of time-varying autoregressive models based on Akaike's information criterion are introduced. Section 4 gives a verification of efficiency of Monden-Yamada-Arimoto's algorithm through the computer simulations. In section 5, a technique for generating the three dimensional simulated earthquake ground motion is presented. Descriptions of multi-dimensional time-varying transfer function and power spectral density function using the fitted autoregressive parameters are given in section 6. In section 7, a numerical example of the fitting problem to actual earthquke records is presented. The time-varying parameters of the autoregressive model fitted to the velocity records of El-centro 1940 earthquake, the sample wave forms generated from the fitted model, the velocity response spectra computed with the sample wave forms, the time-varying power spectral density function and the time-varying transfer function are illustrated in this section. This paper shows an approach to gain an optimal time-varying autoregressive model fitting to actual earthquake records without any assumptions on orders and parameters of the model.

This paper presents a methodology for reliability assessment of large-size network. The algorithm used is based on a partioning of the nodes of the original network into subsets that can be systematically analyzed. The exact and approximate approaches are carried out to compare with the results based on the existing methodologies. This application is illustrated through numerical examples of two lifeline systems to examine the accuracy and efficiency of the present method. Examples are performed using the four methods, i. e., 1) present algorithm, 2) inclusion and exclusion method with transformation to equivalent network of series system in parallel (SSP network), 3) Boolean algebra method and 4) Monte Carlo techniques. The major conclusions obtained in this study are as follows : 1) The proposed procedure brings substantial reduction in huge computer storage reguirement and CPU time for determining the exact solution of a large network, when compared to existing algorithms based on state, path or cut-set enumeration and Monte Carlo simulation. 2) A lower bound on the reliability can be estimated by applying the equivalent SSP algorithm, which deals with strongly connected components, to the dual network. 3) Approximate algorithm with the upper and lower bounds corresponding respectively to path and cut-set enumeration can give the adequate estimate and is an effecive method for dealing with a large network. The upper and lower bounds are more accurate than the existing approximato methods. 4) The approximate upper and lower bounds of network reliability are close togeter to the exact solution under certain circumstances.

This paper aims at getting fundamental information about the "optimum" aseismic design of buildings which produces the condition that every story uniformly suffer the similar degree of damage under seismic excitations. Firstly the elastic continuous shear beams are dealt with. It is anticipated from the mathematical investigation that the shear coefficient distribution of the shear beam subjected to the white noise has the from 1/√<a_x> regardless of the stiffness distribution, where a_x denotes the ratio of the mass above the level x to the total mass. Six systems derived from the combination of two kinds of mass distributions which are uniform and triangular with three kinds of stiffness distributions which are uniform, parabolic and triangular are supposed for its verification. It is concretely confirmed that this expression holds quite well for any systems. Secondly, the nonlinear random responses of discrete multi-degree-of-freedom systems having bilinear hystertic restoring force characteristics subjected to white noises are numerically estimated. Six systems which are identical with those supposed for continuous cases are assumed. The optimum yield shear coefficient distributions are evaluated by such iterative method that the response calculation is repeated until the prescribed criterion regarding the uniformity of expected cumulative plastic deformations is satisfied. The standard deviations of cumulative plastic deformation ratios are also estimated. It is recognized that 1/√<a_x> is again applicable to such discrete systems. This expression is compared with results of tall buildings due to actual earthquke motions and design shear coefficient distributions given in the Japanese seismic code.

This study aims to derive a new formulation of aseismic design by introducing the concept of maximizing the degree of satisfaction. In this purpose, it is known that fuzzy mathematical programming is very useful. In general, fuzzy mathematical programming problems require the usual optimal design procedure as subsystems. For this procedure, the so-called dynamic optimality criterion method is utilized, which was proposed to have good convergency and less computation time. Some design of framed structure are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and applicability of the design method developed herein. Through this study, the following conclusions were derived. The use of fuzzy sets makes it possible to account for the uncertainties due to the approximation in modeling or the simplification of design process, which can be scarcely treated by probability theory. The measure of satisfaction developed herein is available to choose a representative value for each design parameter. Fuzzy mathematical programming provides a useful tool to determine the rational values of design parameters from the standpoint of optimum aseismic design.

We deal with the buckling analysis of shear-elastic thin walled opend and closed cross sectional members under a uniform compression in one direction. Transfer Matrices are used for the calculation of the buckling load by T-, U- and boxed cross section with shear deformation. Two methods for derivation of the determinant of stability are introduced by shape of the cross sections. The region between local buckling and overall buckling is verified using the transfer matrices in this investigation. Pratical results are given in diagrams.

One of the typical steel column bases is formed by a set of base plate welded to the bottom of the column and anchor bolts embedded in a reinforced concrete base. Ultimate strength and deformability of this type of column bases have been examined by adopting various combination of the base plate, anchor bolts and concrete strength and empirical formulas for the strength, stiffness and ultimate deformability of the colum bases have been derived, which may enable a more rational earthquake resistant design of steel structures.

At the intersecting plates, of homogeneous building structure, the transmission coefficients for bending wave and longitudinal wave, of particle velosity, s and energy's are derived analiticaly as general formulae that contains only thickness ratio "n" and generalized freguency "β^2", under the perpendicular incident condition. On the other hand, actual values of energy transmission coefficient are calculated for the intersecting plates of homogeneous concrete construction. And then, the general tendency of frequency characteristics for each coefficient, and their adaptability of smilarity law and reciprocity law are discussed.

This is the second report of the studies on the planning of hospital buildings through the analysis of the functional relationships to materials supply and distribution system. First of all, This paper discribes the total investigation into actural conditions on which, for each department in two hospitals (791 Beds, 275 Beds), how much documents is transported per day, how often, and where. Secondly, I showed the estimated volume of documents and the frequency that will be transported per day, supposing that the hosital might be used comuputers for data processing. As the results, I am able to propose that the volume of transfer documents in hospitals are reduced to one fourth, and the flows of documents are simplified.

Andreae, a priest in the dukedom of Wurttemberg, Germany, wrote a Utopia "Christianopolis" (Strassburg, 1619). It is said that this story, as one of the traditional European utopias since ancient times, shows a new concept of the Christian communities and has many factors of modern city planning. In this essay, I pointed out Andreae's intention and analyzed the city form, the distribution of urban-functions, the systems of scale and city life. Finally I compared these features of Christianopolis with those of contemporary cities in Europe.

This paper is to define a fragment of the creative attitude of Antonio Gaudi by elucidating the practical aspect in the characters of this material. First of all the originality of this material was defined by considering the background of this one through the relation with the contemporaneous thoughts. Next the vision of the new religious architecture as syntesis was presented by arranging and recomposing the descriptions as concerns the church architecture in this notebook. Besides, we considered the idea of the unfinished ≪Iglesia de la Colonia Guell≫ (1898-1916) through the vision presented in this notebook. Consequently the following has been proved that his vision of the religious architecture as syntesis concepted in the adolescence was maintained in his mind, raised through many constructional executions and succeeded to the conceptions of the works ≪Iglesia de la Colonia Guell≫ and ≪Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia≫ (1883-1926) in his later years.

In this paper, I made clear the first form (1882) and the second one (1891) of Shitsu church under the marks. This church was constructed on the basis of the idea of design of Marc-Marie de Rotz and it cannot be situated on the main current of the process of development of the architectures of churches in contrast with the ancient Oura church. I also pointed out that there were some early architectural elements in the completed form of ancient Oura church and that this church was situated in the main current of that process of development at the same time.
