In former papers it was reported that brittle fracture in plastic range at room temperature took place in the full scale tests of wide flange column-to-beam connections of which the thickness of column flanges were from 40mm. to 60mm. In this papers, some qualitative analysis is made on this problem. According to this analysis, brittle crack creates when the local stress of the connection reaches the fracture stress of the material, but the stress which brittle crack propagates is a decreasing function of the members. As for the test specimens in question, the scale of the members can be considered to be large enough to satisfy the condition of crack propagation soon after the brittle crack has been created.

Experimental results are presented on 30 test piecies of Wide-flange rolled shape members under biaxial bending and thrust load. In all the tests the ends of members were pinned and heavy plates were used to restrain warping. Two basic cross sections (H-100×100×100×6×8, H-150×100×6×9) were used as test members and slenderness ratios were varied from 20 to 40, . Loading conditions were selected as axial thrust load ratios P/P_y=0.2, 0.4, and moment ratio about two axis m_1/m_2=0, 0.6, and 1.0, . Load-deflection curves are shown comparing with numerical results by the analytical method described in the previous report (Part I). There are good agreements between test and analytical results.

This report is state the results that calculated the spectra of general dynamical magnification K_m from the displacement response value on single mass system about the records of wind pressure fluctuations in strong winds that showed at part 1. Then, from the results on 79 meters height, we had obtained the experimental formulas of relation between mean value of K_m and periods, and the deviation value of it. And we had composed between K_m and K_r at part 1. More-over, we are state the results the reseached the correlation coefficient in the direction of height.

In this serial paper part 2, the physical mechanism of producing the spectral characteristic of ground motion at ground surface was firstly discussed. A surface layer was represented by a physical model in which the filter and amplifier properties of the layer were considered. Those two properties can be easily obtained from observation. Therefore, the frequency characteristic of ground motion can be obtained by multiplying every frequency component of two spectra of surface layer and input earthquake appeared on bed rock. In order to confirm the suitability of above method, the spectrum made through the method was compared with that obtained from a simple model by ordinary means. This comparison proved that the both spectra were very similar to each other. The method of reproducing the original ground motion from a given spectrum was presented which was the main subject of this study. In this case, the changes in spectral characteristic and power according to the elapse of time were taken into account. As an example, this method was applied to the prediction of Tokachi-Oki earthquake which would occur at the ground surface of Hachinohe Technical College, which was one of the heaviest damaged buildings. The spectral characteristic of the ground had been observed by several after-shocks. Using the spectrum and the record of strong motion accelerometer installed at Hachinohe Harbor, the ground motion at Hachinohe Technical College could be successfully presumed. The maximum accelation of which was indicated to be 291 gals, which is 30 percent larger than that of the record at Hachinohe Harbor. However, the maximum acceleration response for the ground motion of Hachinohe Technical College was found to be abut 2.3 times that of Hachinohe Harbor. That should be one of the most significant reasons which caused to the heavily structural damage.

The elasto-plastic behaviour of columns of H-shaped cross section subjected to biaxial loading is greatly affected by the slenderness ratio of the column, axial load, load condition, shape of the cross section, etc. In this paper, numerical results calculated utilizing the method of analysis described in the previous paper under various conditions are presented, and the influence of several factors on the elasto-plastic behaviour of columns under biaxial bending is illustrated by the moment-displacement curves. In this numerical analysis, wide flange cross sections are chosen, and under the constant axial load end moments acting in two perpendicular directions increase proportionally. For convenience of computation, the variables and parameters in the differential equations of equilibrium are made nondimensional.

This paper presents an experimental research to clarily what kind of reinforcement is most effective for beam-to-column connections of frames subjected to lateral forces. The connections tested in this research consist of box-column and wideflang-beam and their webs are reinforced by increase in thickness of connection-web, by penetration of beam-web through column and by use of oblique plates. Seventeen cruciform specimens are loaded to produce anti-symmetrical bending in their arms and shearing deformations of connections are measured by dial guages. Consideration is given to characteristic of efficiency on stiffening and strengthening the connections and it is concluded that increase in thickness of connection-web would be more recommendable than the other reinforce methods.

The luminous analogue computer or digital computer may be used for the solution of simultaneous equations which express the interreflection systems. As has been already discussed by Moon and Spencer, O'Brien, Iizuka and Ishino, the room coefficient k_r has been widely used for the purpose of simplifying the form and size of the room in the interior lighting design. On the other hand, this coefficient is called the equivalent height, and Hisano, Watanabe Matsuura at al. have difined as z instead of k_r in the study of the lightwell. In this paper, daylighting calculation is carried out by using the room coefficient in case of an idealized room with a unilateral lighting window. The foundamental luminous emittance ratio data necessary to prediction of the daylight factor and total illumination of the working plane or floor are tabulated. The differece between numerical values of the luminous emittance ratio obtained by the interreflection method (luminous flux transfer method) and that of the luminous emittance ratio obtained by applying the approximate formula based upon the reciprocity theorem of the shape modulus (form factor) is compared and discussed with regard to the location, form and size of a lighting window.

In this paper, we report such results of changing of the motorcar uses, appraising about restriction and hopes in future, at the shopping streets exscuting traffic restriction. (a) Car uses of the stores are mainly delivery and stocking, number of times coming and going are almost within five times, and two times or three times are most. (b) At the restriction time, the motorcar riding in is nearly 20%, being almost used outside of the restriction time. (c) Loading and unloading at the restriction time are doing the handcart etc from others than the restriction roads. (d) As many cars park about the roads except restriction road, the matter of parking places has become a problem. (e) The traffic restriction, about half of shopkeepers agree to it, but within 20% unagreeable. (f) The main reason of affirmation is that shoppers are able to shop safely. (g) After this, the opinion, ought to stop the traffic restriction, is 6% in the possessors of car and 2% in the unpossessors.
