Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) has shown great technological advances, and CGM systems such as real-time CGM (rtCGM) and CGM-integrated-insulin pumps have become available for clinical use in Japan as well. We have combined our consensus regarding the use of rtCGM and the insulin pump associated with rtCGM for practical purposes. We have also summarized the indications and benefits of each rtCGM system, along with the key points for patient training. The use of rtCGM and insulin pump assisted by rtCGM are clinically beneficial for adult patients with type 1 diabetes, severely insulin-deficient patients with type 2 diabetes, pediatric patients with diabetes, and patients with gestational diabetes, especially those who have difficulty managing hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. Further clinical guidelines for pediatricians and endocrinologists should be established for diabetes teams to improve patient training and routine clinical practice.
