Polyguanami nes, linear polymers containing 2-imino-4-amino-
s-triazine rings in the chain, were synthesized by the reaction between aliphatic dibiguanides and aliphatic dicarboxylic acid derivatives. As aliphatic dibiguanides, nonamethylene-, hexamethylene-, and ethylene-dibiguanides, and as aliphatic dicarboxylic acid derivatives, dimethyl-, diphenyl-, and di-
p-nitrophenyl-sebacates and diphenyl adipate were used as starting materials.
Dibiguanides were treated with diphenyl esters by the melt polycondensation technique to obtain the polymers. The polymers so obtained were soluble in sulfuric acid, trifluoroacetic acid, and
m-cresol ; they were insoluble in acetone, benzene, chloroform, methanol and water. Structures of the polymers were also discussed based on the IR spectra and the elemental analysis.
