Factors affecting the selectivity to straightchain products in cobalt carbonyl-catalyzed oxo-and related reactions will be briefly discussed. Then, new active catalyst for hydroesterification and hydroformylation of olefins with facile separating property from the reaction product will be described. Finally, some development in carbonylation reactions with cobalt carbonyl will be reviewed mainly from an industrial point of view.
The chemistry of macrocyclic compounds was reviewed in connection with the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic compounds. Macrocyclic compounds in the polymerized system from hetero atom containing cyclic compounds are mixtures of macrocyclic oligomers in thermodynamic equilibrium. The polymerizability of macrocyclic compounds is controlled mainly by the entropy term. The concentration of macrocycles in the polymerized system can be analyzed by Jacobson-Stockmayer theory. The synthesis and physical properties of macrocyclic compounds were also mentioned.
Synthetic works on peptides by means of proteolytic enzymes were reviewed according to the following articles : enzymatic peptide bond formation including plastein reaction, and enzymatic removal of amine and carboxyl protecting groups and others.
Benz [α] anthracenes are well-known as a carcinogen, although the activity is much dependent on their substituents. In this review is described the synthesis of substituted benz [α] anthracenes. Recent advances in one step synthesis of benz [α] anthracene skeleton by photo- and thermal-Diels-Alder type reaction are also discussed.
