In Japan Proper, potholes are found in more than 30 places, of which two are on the seacoast and others in the valley.
The writer researched two new places; one by river erosion in the valley wall of the River Hida, Gifu prefecture, and the other by mari-ne erosion on the seashore of cape Inubô near Tyôsi, Tiba prefecture. The “eddy hole” and the “gorge hole” defined dy H. S. Alexander, are both found at the places described in this paper.
The writer sees an analogy of the “plunge-pool hole” in the sea cave.
Photographes 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 show the potholes along the River Hida, and Photos. 7, 8, 10, and 11 of that at Inubô.
