By the application of factor analysis to the foot data of 407 females ranging in age from 18 to 90 years old for explication of the principal factors of the fore part of foot, the author discussed the classification of the types of toes and probability density of each type. The results were as follows:
(1) The four factors---the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th factors signify the shapes of toe. The 1st factor signifies the proportion of length of toes to foot breadth. The 3rd, 5th and 6th factors signify the proportions of each length of the 3rd and 4th, 5th and 1st toes to the 2nd toe, respectively.
(2) The 2nd factor signifies both the proportion of inside half foot breadth to outside half foot breadth and the 1st toe angle, and the 4th factor signifies both proportion of inside half foot breadth to outside half foot breadth and the 5th toe angle.
(3) When toe types are classified by using the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th factors, the type with medium scores in all the factors is found 21.7% as the highest probability density.
(4) Comparing the toes types of the young group with those of the aged group, probability density of the type with a steep slope from the 2nd toe to the 5th toe of the young group is higher than that of the aged group the probability density of the stumpy type with a gentle slope is lower in the young than in the aged group.
