Nylon 66 and aramide“tetra-axial woven fabrics”have been developed which are composed of four types of yarns: warps, fillings, right-and left-bias yarns. Load-elongation curves of the woven fabrics have been determined to assess the tensile mechanical performance. In order to evaluate the tensile behaviour of tetra-axial woven fabrics, we have developed a new tensile test method, in which a set of clamping jaws capable of holding a test specimen of 250mm wide is used. Several specimens have been cut at successive angular increments to direction for tensile tests. The test results have shown that, comparing with the F.L. Scardino procedure or JIS L 1096 method for fabrics in general, this new tensile test method can explain the tensile behaviour of tetra-axial woven fabrics adequately.
