In order to obtain fundamental data with regard to the designing method of waist band of pantyhose, the tensile property, length and width of bands of sixty kinds of pantyhose in the market were examined, and wear experiments using six typical samples of them were conducted. The following results were obtained.
1) The bands of the knitted-in type had wide range of distributions of the width and length. Their tensile stress which was calculated when women with 62cm in waist circumference worn those bands, was distributed in wide ranges of from 150 to 600gf.
2) The bands of the out-weave type had narrower, longer and lower stretch performance than the knitted-in type.
3) In pantyhose whose crotch length is between 30 and 40cm, and is stretching over 70% in wear, the slipped-down distance from waist position of the bands in wear was long. And the length of the bands was from 5 to 7cm longer than the waist circumference of the body.
4) Each tensile strain of the front, back, right and left parts of the bands was not influenced by the flat ratio of iliocristale or waist, but by the knit structure of the panty part.
5) In order to make the influence of waist circumference on the band pressure lower, it is better to use bands, the tensile curve of which is possibly lower at early stages.
