The static frictional force between two specimens of the same fabric finished with lubricants has been determined to investigate the effects of lubricants on the surface property of fabrics. Plain weave cotton fabrics were finished with the polydimethylsiloxane (DMPS) with 20, 100 1000 and 10000 cs in viscosity and 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 5.0 wt% in concentration of the finishing solution. The effect has been considered of viscosity and concentration of lubricants on the fabric smoothness.
The static frictional force at the rirst frictional cycle decreased or the smoothness of the cotton fabrics increased with increase of DMPS concentration. It reached the plateau at 0.5 wt% of DMPS concentration. Furthermore the smoothness of the cotton fabric increased with increase of the viscosity of DMPS. The effects of DMPS on the static frictional force during the repeated frictional cycles were also discussed.
