The purpose of this paper is to derive the prediction equations to obtain the gap lengths on the sides of the shoulder and upper chest blocks on the front trunk surface development pattern from the body measurement without making the pattern. This was done by investigating the gap lengths of the development patterns of fifty female subjects, which showed the body shape of the three-dimensional curved surface on the flat pattern except the body lengths. The results are as follows : Gaps appeared on the FSWL (front shoulder width lines 1 and 2) and the CWL (chest width lines 1 and 2) of all the patterns, on the FBL2 (front bust line 2) of the twelve patterns, on the FCL2 (front center line 2) of the nine patterns, and on the FASL4 (front armscye line 4) of the thirty patterns. Those gaps shaped the concave curved surface on the body. Each FSWLI gap length was obtained by subtracting the FSWL1 from the FBL1 on the body. The four gap lengths, FSWL2, CWL2, FBL2 and FCL2, were derived from the simultaneous equations of the four multiple regression equations using the body sides lengths. We have found that the FASL4 gap length can be estimated from the two side lengths on the body by the multiple regression equation.
