The experiments on the release of dissolved 85Kr by standing at room temperature were carried out to examine the influence of liquid level in a sampler and properties of solvent on the release efficiency. Six kinds of organic solvents as well as water were taken as solvents.
The half-life period in case of the decrease in concentration of the dissolved 85Kr which was used as an index of release efficiency, was proportional to the liquid level in the sampler and was inversely proportional to the diffusion coefficient of Kr gas in solvent. For organic solvents belonging to homologous series, the half-life period became longer with increasing the carbon number of solvent molecule. From the relationship between the half-life period and the carbon number, the release efficiency in the dissolved 85Kr can be predicted for any commonly used solvent as a practical application. This method was found to be an effective means of removing the dissolved 85Kr of low level though it takes rather long time.

Pearls change their color to grey by γ-ray irradiation. Grey densities were determined from darkness of pearl nuclei and thickness of the pearl layers. The densities are independent of both diameters of nuclei and pearls. The fading rate increases with increasing storage temperature. The rate of fading for irradiated pearls is lower than that for natural blue pearls. Comparison of photomicrographs (×12) for pearls irradiated and then stored at room temperature for about 6 years revealed that their surfaces are not substantially different from the surfaces of unirradiated cultured pearls, indicating that γ irradiation hardly gives rise to deterioration, γ-Ray irradiation is a technique for coloration of pearls. Irradiated blue pearls seem to have resistivity to fading and to deterioration of the surface, if pearls have been irradiated properly.

The regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) was determined on seventeen patients with brain tumors. Ring type single photon emission CT (SPECT) was used following intravenous injection of 133Xe. Case materials included eleven meningiomas and six malignant gliomas. Evaluation was performed with emphasis on the following points; (1) Correlation of the flow data within tumors to the angiographic tumor stains, (2) Influence of tumors on the cerebral blood flow of the normal brain tissue, (3) Correlation between degree of peripheral edema and the flow data of the affected hemispheres.
There was significant correlation between flow data within tumors and angiographie tumor stains in meningiomas. Influence of tumors on cerebral blood flow of the normal tissue was greater in meningiomas than in gliomas. There was negative correlation between the degree of peripheral edema and the flow data of the affected hemisphere. It has been concluded that the measurement of CBF in brain tumors is a valuable method in evaluation of brain tumors.

Several methods to improve the image resolution of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) occur to us. It is one method to use multislice fan beam collimators which have the parallel collimation along the cephalic-caudul axis of a patient and the conversing collimation within planes parpendicular to that axis. It is impossible to obtain corrective image when we used the algorithm which is commonly used for reconstruction of SPECT images. We proposed a reconstruction algorithm for multislice fan beam collimator in this paper. An interpolation method developed for fan beam type X-ray CT was modified to reconstruct images from SPECT with multislice fan beam collimator. This algorithm was confirmed by means of computer simulation studies. Beside improving the system resolution by effectively reducing the intrinsic resolution of the cameras, this collimator also increases the system sensitivity by utilizing a large fraction of the crystal area. We have thought that to use multislice fan beam collimator is beneficial for SPECT images.

The feasibility of using spirulina as adsorbent for the treatment of low-level liquid radwaste is studied. The experimental results indicate that the sorption capacity of spirulina is good for the di-and trivalent metallic ions at pH 3-7, but rather poor for the mono-valent metallic ions and non-metallic ions. Some factors affecting metal ion uptake by spirulina such as the content of detergent, sodium ion in liquid radwaste and the stability of spirulina under γ irradiation were also investigated.
