    The preparation method for the source of 4πβ-counting which had less self-absorption and better uniformity was studied.
    The procedures of the preparation were as follows. The solution of radioactive nuclide was dropped upon the source backing film coated with aluminum and dried up under an infrared lamp. Then the source material dried up on the film was again dissolved by adding a small amount of distilled water and finally dried up in an ammoniac atmosphere.
    By this method, the source material was distributed uniformly by the presence of fine particles of aluminum compound which were produced in the solution of radioactive nuclide.
    The self-absorption for β-rays of the sources of 46Sc, 60Co, and 203
    Hg was measured by means of 4πβ-γ coincidence method and the uniformity of them was observed auto-radiographically and microphotographically. The self absoption in this method was little less than that in colloidal silica treatment or precipitation method.

    A rapid method for determination of 60Co in environmental samples was proposed. The method is based on coprecipitation of radiocobalt on hydroxides precipitate, separation by anion exchange and TOA extraction followed by direct liquid scintillation counting. The overall recovery of cobalt is higher than 95% and the counting efficiency of as high as 80% can be attained. Several sea water and seaweed samples were analyzed by this method.

    When one interprets the scintigram of organs, it is often desirable to accurately relate the scintigram to the anatomic structures. For this purpose, several techniques have been tried, but none have been widely applied. This is probably due to the following reasons:
    1) They require costly modification of the scanner;
    2) They are technically troublesome, uneficient and time-consuming;
    3) They do not provide equal magnification of the photoscan and the roentgenogram;
    4) They disregard the respiratory excursion of the organs.
    In an attempt to overcome the objections to these techniques, a new apparatus has been devised for making the roentgenogram and the photoscan of a patient in the same position on one film, the one superimposed on the other by a double exposure technique (to this technique we give the name “photoscintillo-roenthenography”) . This technique is being clinically applied in our department

    The ventilatory steady state measurement with 133Xe, using xenon lung function unit and a large area scintillation camera combined with computer analysing technique has been employed to evaluate regional pulmonary functions of 7 normal subjects and 6 patients with emphysema, chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, lung cancer and progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) . Regional ventilation indices, perfusion indices and clearance half times were calculated for each lung fields divided into 24 zones. Comparing these data with clinical courses, routine pulmonary function data and X-ray findings, the measurement of regional pulmonary function with 133Xe showed to be very useful in clinical application.
    In the patient with emphysema, clearance half times were markedly prolonged in all lung fields and ventilation indices balanced comparatively. In contrast to these findings, in chronic bronchitis ventilation indices were reduced and clearance half times were slightly prolonged in areas showing inflammation detected by bronchography. Regional ventilatory impairement was found in the patient with bronchial asthma in remission, however indices in perfusion remained almost normal. In view of reproducibility, the clearance half time seemed to be better parameter than the ventilation index by single breath method for estimation of regional ventilation. Comparing with such parameters in a patient with lung cancer before and after treatment by
    60Co irradiation, the blood flow restored remarkably in even impaired lung fields. As clearance half times were prolonged and perfusion indices were reduced in limited lower lung zones of the patient with PSS, it was considered that interstitial fibrosis and local emphysematous changes have been progressive in these regions.

    A RIA-Mat T3 kit was used for an in vitro measurement of the triiodothyronine in serum. A resin strip was utilized as absorbent of free triiodothyronine after the serum was incubated with antibody to triiodothyronine.
    This test was easy to manipulate and the reproducibility test with same sera, dilution test and recovery test were also satisfactory.
    The normal range of triiodothyronine determined with this test kit was 119±40 ng/dl using 50 test sera. Ninety sera with various thyroid deseases were also determined.

    In order to investigate the tumor affinity radioisotopes, iron (Fe-59), cobalt (Co-58), ruthenium (Ru-103), Palladium (Pd-103), Osmium (Os-185+191) and iridium (Ir-192) -the elements of group VIII in the periodic table-were examined, using the rats which were subcutaneousl y transplanted with Yoshida sarcoma. Six preparations, 59Fe-chloride, 58Co-chloride, 103Ru-chloride, 103Pd-chloride, 185+191Os-hexachlorosmic acid and 103Ir-hexachloriridic acid were injected intravenously to each group of tumor bearing rats. These rats were sacrificed at various periods after injection of each preparation: 3 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours in all preparations but 59Fe-chloride, 30 minutes, 3 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours in 59Fe-chloride. The radioactivities of the tumor, blood, muscle, liver, kidney and spleen were measured by a well-type scintillation counter, and retention values (in every tissue including the tumor were calculated in percent of administered dose per g-tissue weight) .
    185+191Os-hexachlorosmic acid had considerably strong affinity for the malignant tumor. 59Fe-chloride, 58Co-chloride, 103Ru-chloride, 103Pd-chloride and 192Ir-hexachloriridic acid did not have any affinity for malignant tumor. But 59Fe-chloride had very strong affinity for blood-corpuscles.
    103Pd-chloride had fairly strong affinity for the kidney and liver, 58Co-chloride had fairly affinity for the liver, 103Ru-chloride, 185+191Os-hexachlorosmic acid and 192Ir-hexa-chloriridic acid had fairly strong affinity for the kidney.
