Biochemical states of 137Cs
accumulated in killifish's (Medaka, Oryzias latipes)
meat were investigated in order to elucidate the accumulation mechanism of the radionuclide in goldfish, Carassius auratus auratus, examined in our preceding report.
Most of 137Cs
radioactivity in the killifish's raw meat accumulated this radionuclide in the radioactive freshwater, were found in the non-protein nitrogenous compound (NPNC) fraction (>92%), also in the killifish's control raw meat mixed with 137Cs,
the difference between both meat samples was not clear.
As the results of gel filtration profiles on Sephadex G-25 for the NPNC fraction of these meats, each only one radioactive peak was shown, also similar to 137CsCl
solution. Moreover, these peaks appeared at the same position. On the other hand, the peak positions absorbed at OD280nm in the samples were different from those of each radioactive peak. It was so suggested that 137Cs
accumulated in the killifish's meat was shown not to be binding to protein's composition.
Furthermore, as the results on thin-layer chromatography, ion-exchange resin chromatography and reaction with 137Cs
in samples and ammonium phosphomolybdate,
137Cs
in the NPNC fraction of the killifish's meat was not almost different from those of each control and 137CsCl
solution.

Measurement of radon concentrations by electrostatic integrating radon monitors was performed in open air over 16 months from the end July, 1994 at 23 sites in Shizuoka Prefecture. Based on the data collected in this period and analyzed by the statistical tests (one-way analysis of variance and Friedman test), mean radon concentration and its seasonal variations at eight districts of the Shizuoka prefecture are reported.
Radon concentration level of Izu and east districts is less than 5 Bq/m
3,
though we expected higher level as these area are volcanic area with hot springs. The levels of mountain sites, plain sites and coast sites of the midwest range from 5 to 8 Bq/m
3,
3 to 6 Bq/m
3 and 2 to 4 Bq/ m
3,
respectively, which are consistent with our expectation based on the geology. However, as for the plain site of the central Shizuoka, more data are necessary to extract information which is warranted by the statistical test.
Generally, the radon concentration in Shizuoka prefecture is high in the west and low in the east, and there is a clear seasonal valiation, lower level in summer and higher level in winter, except for the Izu peninsula and Kosai city, which is typical in most of Pacific coastal areas. In Izu peninsula and Kosai city, radon gas seems to be influenced strongly by the wind from the ocean, which results in the lower level.
Present data are consistent with nation-wide features reported by the National Institute of Radiological Sciences in which data in Shizuoka prefecture was not included.

Ca-
DTPA or Zn-
DTPA was injected subcutaneously to pregnant mice once a day for 5 consecutive days from day 13 to 17 of gestation. Maternal and fetal livers were collected 20 hours after the final injection of DTPA, and essential metal contents in the liver samples were determined by PIXE.
Both Ca-
DTPA and Zn-
DTPA did not affect essential metal contents in the maternal liver, but Ca-DTPA significantly decreased copper and zinc contents in the fetal liver to 2/3 and 1/2 of the control value, respectively. Zn-
DTPA did not affect fetal zinc content, but it decreased that of copper. It could not be determined whether DTPA affected fetal manganese content because the fetal liver contained no detectable amount of manganese.

An incineration system was constructed which were composed of a combustion furnace (AP-150R), a cyclone dust collector, radioisotope trapping and measurement apparatus and a radioisotope storage room built in the first basement of the Radioisotope Center.
Low level radioactive samples (LLRS) used for the combustion experiment were composed of combustible material or semi-combustible material containing 500 kBq
of 99mTcO
4 or 23.25 kBq
of 131INa.
The distribution of radioisotopes both in the inside and outside of combustion furnace were estimated. We measured radioactivity of a smoke duct gas in terminal exit of the exhaust port. In case of combustion of LLRS containing 99mTcO
4 or 131INa,
concentration of radioisotopes at the exhaust port showed less than legal concentration limit of these radioisotopes. In cases of combustion of LLRS containing 99mTcO
4 or 131INa,
decontamination factors of the incineration system were 120 and 1.1, respectively.
