RhCl3catalyzed regioselective tritiation of benzanilide and para-halobenzanilides with HTO was studied to examine the substituent effects of halogen atoms on the tritium incorporation to the anilino benzene ring. It was established by chemical degradation that the tritiation occurred with virtually 100% regioselectivity at the o-positions of both the benzene rings in the benzanilides. The p-substituted halogen atoms increased the tritium incorporation ratios of the anilino benzene ring to the benzoyl benzene ring, which in the present hydrogen isotope exchange was considered as an intramolecular reference standard for the tritium incorporation. The average ratios obtained from the respective duplicates were 0.386, 1.20, 1.61 and 1.74 in the order of benzanilide, p-F-, p-Cl- and p-Br-benzanilides. On the basis of the results, the reaction mechanism is briefly discussed
A phase I/II study of imaging with radiolabeled anti-CEA monoclonal antibody, 111In-ZCE-025, was carried out in patients with colorectal cancers as a joint research project at 5 hospitals in Japan. There were 24 patients, 22 of which were judged to be evaluable. Nineteen had primary lesions with or without metastatic lesions, two had local recurrences, and one had only metastatic lesions. On the patient basis, 21 of the 22 (95.5%) were judged to be positive. Of the 40 known lesions, planar imaging detected 24 (60.0%), whereas combined imaging (planar and single photon emission computed tomography, SPECT) detected 29 (72.5%) . Surgery disclosed another 22 new lesions, two (9.1 %) of which had been detected by the planar and four (18.2%) by the combined imagings. As for the newly visualized sites, on the other hand, planar imaging depicted 10, two of which were true positives (20.0%), whereas combined imaging depicted 20 and four of which were true positives (20.0%) . These low positive predictive values for newly visualized sites were due to many false positive lymph nodes. In conclusion, this method will be useful for preoperative screening and diagnosis of local recurrence of colorectal cancers. But the formation of HAMA should be taken into consideration when this method is repeatedly used. At present, for metastatic foci in lymph nodes, this method possesses only a complementary role.
Compton scattering is thought one of the factors which led to inferior quantification of SPECT. To improve SPECT quantification, energy-weighted acquisition (EWA) was studied using a SPECT phantom, Using EWA, the rate of scattered photons was more decreased easily, spatial resolution and image contrast improved. Also this method was superior to normal window acquisition (NWA) in linearity of relative radioactivity ratio. Cold lesion size in SPECT was measured more precisely than NWA.
The measurement system for Doppler broadening profiles of annihilation radiations was developed. This system reads out data for energies of r-rays from an analog to digital converter and those for specimen temperature from a digital-voltmeter coupled to a thermocouple. These two types of digital-quantities were stored in a memory matrix of 512 channels (energy) ×128 channels (temperature) ×4 byte (count) . For this purpose, a memory board of 256 kbyte with 32-dynamic RAMs (64 kbits) was used. The data acquisition was controlled by a microcomputer. Temperature of the specimen was controlled by a programmable temperature controller, thus it can be varied in a desired way. This was useful for measurements in repeated temperature cycles. A sample heater with a compact size was developed in order to obtain a homogeneous temperature distribution in the specimen. Application of this system for a study of thermal vacancies in Al-dilute alloys was also shown.
Ingestion of 210Pb in Akita City, northern Japan was studied with food category samples and total diet samples by means of a low energy photon spectrometry. Results for food category samples revealed that the contribution of marine products to total 210Pbingestion was the largest. Mean 210Pb ingestion of the two total diet samples was found to be 0.19 Bq d-1, and approximately 1/3 of a previous reported value which was cited in an UNSCEAR report as an example of high 210Pbingestion by marine foods consumption.
We have developed a personal computer system using a commercial spreadsheet software. This system is applicable to management of radioactive wastes and measurement at pertinent points (surface contamination and radiation dose) . As the result of our experience, we have found that the spreadsheet software is quite satisfactory for radiation protection management and that it has advantages in some aspects against other so f twares by programming language.
